JOB SUMMARY

  • The role is within the WRB finance FP& A team, which is responsible for the overall Financial planning and analysis for WRB businesses covering multiple segments and markets. A key objective of the team is to carry out deep research and analysis on the industry, market trends, competitive landscape, economic indicators and their impact on our business performance. The specific focus is to leverage this research to develop insights for management reviews and decision making. This role will play a key role in ensuring the WRB FP&A team maintains consistent focus on internal and external analytics thereby ensuring quality insights to business stakeholders.
  • The successful candidate will develop a strong understanding of WRB performance, key dynamics, drivers, and trends impacting the business. The role suits an individual with analytical, strategic, and communication skills to assess the macro economic and competitive landscape and provide actionable insights

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

  • Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Group operates
  • Develop strong understanding of SC and WRB strategic priorities and key metrics being communicated externally
  • Analyse economic indicators that impact the banking industry such as interest rates, GDP growth etc and how they impact the bank strategy and outcomes.

Business

  • Identify market trends, opportunities, risks and threats as may be relevant to the business context
  • Ability to identify and anticipate trends in the market or industry that could influence client behavior or strategic shifts.
  • Ability to think critically about how market developments impact our strategy and identify opportunities for differentiation or competitive advantage.
  • Work with competitor and Bank data (market share, pricing, sales performance, etc.) to make informed conclusions about competitor strategies and performance
  • Stay current with evolving competitor strategies and produce timely analysis to provide real time insights.
  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to evaluate and compare competitors' products, services, pricing, and marketing efforts.
  • Conduct SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis to compare competitors against each other and SCB.

Processes

  • Gather data from financial reports, news sources, industry publications, and economic reports to support analysis.
  • Make quick, clear and concise presentations using PowerPoint to communicate analysis and insights. Expert powerpoint skills required.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify competitor strengths, weaknesses, market positioning and strategic opportunities
  • Interpret financial statements, analyze ratios, and understand key metrics such as revenue, profit margins, and cash flow

  • Lead by example with the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations within the team and work in collaboration with WRB finance colleagues and other key stakeholders.

Risk Management

  • Develop an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing and communicating with the market regarding them
  • Interpret the Group’s financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures

Governance

  • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role
  • Responsible for delivering ‘effective governance’; capability to challenge colleagues effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 8+ years experience in finance at a leading global financial services firm, preferably in Wealth/Consumer Banking.
  • Relevant experience with corporate strategy/management consultancy preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, economics or a related field.
  • Ability to articulate information by way of impactful power-point presentations will be well-regarded
  • Qualified Accountant i.e.CPA, CMA, ACCA or equivalent, or MBA (Finance) preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively manage varied stakeholders and global teams within finance and business
  • Proficiency in working with data (market share, pricing, sales performance) and deep understanding of the industry, including trends, regulations, key players, and market dynamics
  • Effective collaboration with business and strategy teams to ensure competitor insights are integrated into broader business strategies.
