Landscape Design Director

This Humid House Pte. Ltd.

About This Humid House (THH):

We are a botanical design studio founded in Singapore that encompasses both floral design for events and installations and a dedicated landscape design studio (THH Landscape). We believe in synergy and knowledge sharing between our departments, often co-creating on projects that benefit from the combined expertise. THH is a unique design studio that works broadly with living media across various disciplines, driven by curiosity and a commitment to exploring the storytelling potential of plants and flowers.

Rather than imposing a preconceived style, we respond to the unique context of each place, allowing the site’s character to guide our design approach, with the botanical taking precedence. We approach planting selections with great care, ensuring they are thoughtful, nuanced, and sensitive to each site's cultural and ecological layers. Our hardscape designs strive to seamlessly integrate the user experience with the botanical elements and the tectonics of each space.

About the Role:

As the Landscape Design Director, you will be the most senior figure in our landscape team, a role with significant creative influence. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of landscape design projects. The ideal candidate should share the studio’s ambition and possess the experience and sensitivity required to bring our studio to a new level of sophistication. Your role is to ensure these projects meet the highest standards of quality, creativity, and sustainability. You will report directly to the founder and Creative Director of THH and require close collaboration to align the landscape studio’s creative vision with THH's broader goals.

Key Responsibilities

Management & Leadership:

• Lead and manage the landscape design team, ensuring all projects reflect THH’s hallmark excellence in softscape design and meet our quality standards.

• Collaborate closely with the founder and leadership team to develop and execute the studio's short-term and long-term strategic goals.

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the landscape studio, ensuring effective project structuring, creative team management, and continuous improvement in client service, communication, design, and production.

• Mentor and develop staff, fostering a positive work environment that supports their professional growth and achievement of career goals.

• Participate in the recruitment process, identifying and interviewing potential candidates for the landscape team.

Project Oversight:

• Provide overall leadership on all active landscape design projects, from private gardens to larger-scale developments, ensuring they are aligned with THH’s vision and standards.

• Review and approve project proposals, design plans, and sub-consultant’s contracts.

• Ensure all designs incorporate sustainable practices and reflect the studio’s commitment to innovative and contextually appropriate solutions.

• Maintain leading-edge knowledge of sustainable design concepts and best practices, particularly in softscape design.

Business Development:

• Lead business development efforts for the landscape design studio, securing high-quality projects with discerning clients.

• Align the studio’s revenue streams with company financial goals and establish and oversee annual revenue and marketing objectives.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, city and county jurisdictions, and industry professionals.

• Champion the cross-selling of all THH’s services to maximise business opportunities.

Coordination & Collaboration:

• Work closely with clients, authorities, and other consultants to ensure cohesive and successful project outcomes.

• Coordinate with specialists and contractors to integrate their input and expertise into the design process.

• Regularly review studio billings, ensuring compliance with annual revenue goals and identifying trends.

Qualifications

• Experience: 8-10 years in landscape architecture at the senior associate level, with substantial experience in project structuring, creative team management, and a particular excellence in softscape design.

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field.

• Proven success in managing complex landscape design projects from concept to completion.

• Strong leadership skills with experience in mentoring and developing design teams.

• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present to clients and stakeholders.

• High proficiency in site planning, planting design, layout, and construction detailing.

• In-depth knowledge of sustainable design practices and the ability to apply them creatively.

• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), and other relevant tools.

• Licenses: Licensed Landscape Architect (or equivalent).

Key Competencies

• Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to lead and inspire a team to achieve high-performance levels.

• Strong understanding of financial management within a design studio context.

• Ability to adapt to landscape design's dynamic nature and its challenges.

• Commitment to delivering high-quality design solutions that meet client expectations and contribute to the firm’s reputation.

If this opportunity matches your experience and aspirations, we would love to discuss it further. This role offers a significant chance to contribute creatively to a growing boutique landscape design firm that collaborates with renowned architects and is expanding its portfolio to include larger projects.
