RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage the Advancement Communications team of 3 specialists in the field of marketing communications, annual giving and campaign operations.
- Lead and oversee the execution of an integrated Advancement marketing and communications strategy that makes a compelling case for philanthropy and engagement for a wide variety of constituencies and stakeholders, including SMU students, faculty, and staff.
- Drive all communications & marketing work plans for the department to ensure continuity and consistent messaging across gift announcements, newsletters, event collaterals, corporate branding and donor reports.
- Oversee the implementation of an advancement plan to meet annual fundraising targets with organizational strategic objectives and budget for the Annual Giving Portfolio.
- Partner with colleagues across campus, including leadership at Schools/Institutes/Centers, to strategically position key Advancement initiatives and further enable a culture of philanthropy across the organization.
- Work with fundraisers on structuring gift proposals, and collating information for opportunities that support the development of the fundraising pitches.
- Work closely with the Head, Stewardship & Advancement Services on communications matters relating to major donor engagement activities, quarterly cultivation events, campaign recognition initiatives, and support for SOCIs stewardship programmes.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree with at least 10 years' of work experience.
- Extensive experience with fundraising, communications or related fields, particularly in a higher education environment.
- Experience with managing staff, as s/he will be managing a team of communications and annual giving specialists.
- Proven track record in creating clear, persuasive content across various platforms (especially top-quality gift opportunity offerings), with a deep understanding of diverse audiences and how to communicate effectively with them.
- Experience in donor relations and stewardship is a bonus to work cross-functionally with the Head, Stewardship and Advancement Services. Able to understand how to create synergies between these functions to provide an outstanding experience to SMU donors and beneficiaries.
- Proficient in Mandarin, both written and verbal communications to facilitate content development for different segments of the donor network.
- Operates with a high level of discretion and ethics.
