ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The main responsibilities of this role is to ensure solution and architectural design satisfies customer technical and project requirements (including budget and schedule); ensuring solution is implemented in line with product policy, legislation, appropriate technical regulatory framework, design obligations and that technical risk are clearly identified and managed.
The architect is a member of the Engineering team, reports functionally to the Engineering Manager and operationally to the Engineering Delivery Manager or Project Manager.
He may interface with Technical Directors and Product/Project Design Authorities from the Business Lines to get approvals on solution design/change.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As aSolution Architect, you are accountable for:
- Plan, design, lead & maintain the solution architecture for Bids and Projects throughout all lifecycle phases.
- Define and propose innovative solutions to meet customer requirements in compliance with product/system technical strategy.
- Analyze technical and technological choices to ensure the best trade-off between customer requirements, technical solutions, costs and risk control.
- Ensure standardization and adequate re-use in solutions as defined/recommended by the PDA (Product/Project Design Authority) and DA (Design Authority) from Thales Business Lines.
- Contribute to definitions on technical specification, scope of work, and choice of subcontractor for needed subsystem acquisition, taking into account possible export controls.
- Coordinate with PDA/DA to ensure top down refinement of solutions is consistent with software/system strategy and constraints, including COTS & OSS selection and components reuse.
- Ensure software & system architecture stability across lifecycle phases from Bid to Delivery.
- Direct and coordinate software architecture studies and documentations.
- Approve the technical, technological, and methodological choices taken in respect of the selected software & system architecture.
- Guarantee adherence to in-scope standards, reuse policy and product development plans.
- Identify modelling, simulation and prototyping opportunities for current and future use.
- Prepare solution design & justifications for selected design
- Provide guidance to others on state-of-the-art software & system architecting, taking into account future trends.
- Collaborate with software engineering manager (SwEM) in checking "Software Asset Management (SAM)" for software components and ensure components used in engineering workbenches are properly captured (codification, compliance, impacts on costs, etc).
- Collaborate with hardware infrastructure, cyber security, and network team in reviewing and ensuring design completeness in compliance with bids and project requirements, as well as design to costs, schedule and manageable risks
