Head of Computational Sciences (Discovery), EDDC

At EDDC, our goal is to discover and develop novel therapeutics by working collaboratively with public sector and industry partners. EDDC now has an opening and is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced leader for the Computational Sciences group. The successful candidate will be leading the computational biology and information system groups and providing strategic guidance to the discovery leadership teams and the EDDC management team in leveraging the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to accelerate the drug discovery and development processes, including novel target identification.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of software engineers, data engineers, computational biology, bioinformatic, IT professionals, and data scientists to support and contribute to all the discovery projects.
  • Drive the implementation of cross-functional data integration & workflow automation aimed at fostering data-driven and AI-driven approaches to drug discovery and validation.
  • Lead strategic planning and execution of artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) initiatives, with a focus to support AI-augmented drug design and development, addressing 'undruggable’ targets, and expediting processes.
  • Cultivate and sustain robust collaborative relationships with various functions within the Discovery unit and across relevant divisions within EDDC.
  • Establish, lead and actively contribute to key partnerships with academic and industrial entities within Singapore or globally to enable the smooth access of patient-derived data, support the novel target discovery and evaluation efforts.
  • Oversee all IT operation infrastructure, propose strategic solutions and recommend new systems and software.
  • Manage all technology systems and applications to support EDDC's goals and objectives

Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in computer science, data sciences, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related fields.
  • An MBA is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of ten years of leadership experience in the pharma/biotech industry, with a strong background in the application of computational biology and AI/ML to research, translational and clinical programs.
  • Domain knowledge in at least one therapeutic area such as oncology, immunology, and inflammation.
  • Proven track record of developing and launching industry-grade computational biology software platforms, with demonstrated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and pipeline impact.
  • Hands-on experience with the AWS cloud platform and relevant certifications is preferred.
  • Excellent executive communication, collaboration and leadership skills are essential.
  • Sound working knowledge of IT operation, systems, and developments.
