Machine Shop Manager
This is a critical role which requires a strong technical background in managing a highly proficient machine shop team including the tool crib operations. This position has the overall responsibility for machine shop output in terms of safety, quality and on time deliveries. This position is also responsible for managing the supervisor and programing teams including design of tooling, fixtures, and machining sequence for complex features. The role also supports the sales teams by providing the estimation of machining hours and best optimized solution.
Primary responsibilities:
- Manpower management to ensure safety and high efficiency in the machine shop.
- Ensure quality, OTD and productivity targets are met.
- Responsible to manage all resources such as manpower, tooling, fixtures, gages, programs etc. for efficient operation of machine shop.
- Evaluation of complex machine drawings for manufacturing.
- Propose and implement tooling & fixtures for machining of complex features. Manage cost savings on toolings and fixtures.
- Support sales team on accurate estimation of machining hours.
- Evaluate the reasons for variances between planned and actual and implement actions to mitigate the variances.
- Lead daily MRB (Material Review Board) meeting to provide technical input for jobs when nonconformance occurs.
- Involve in troubleshooting on quality issues which includes working with subcontractors.
- Manage machinists and programming team from multinational countries.
- Support new product manufacturing method and FA process.
- Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Candidate must have a strong background in managing a CNC machine shop.
- Exposure to machining of complex parts for oil & gas equipment is preferred.
- Good mechanical / technical skills
- Good understanding of ANSI, ASME Standards and API Products requirements.
- Good knowledge of CNC programming software will be helpful.
- Strong communication and analytical skills, team player, energetic and willing to work hard.
