Relief Teaching Assistant/Monitor

The Relief Teaching Assistant/Monitor covers the absence of any full-time or regular part-time Teaching Assistant/Monitor to ensure the continuity of teaching and the students’ learning.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome the children in their classroom, at the start of the day.
  • Supervise and accompany the children during recess, meals, some activities, nap time, when the buses arrive and when they depart from school, help them with dressing, undressing, and changing when and where needed (with a follow-up on autonomy development); Prepare snack and mealtime, assist when and where needed.
  • Ensure that personal hygiene and safety rules are respected in all pertinent places such as the classrooms, stairs, corridors, playground etc.; Clean, tidy up and store the school’s equipment throughout the day, as well as at the end of the day.
  • Maintain classroom organization and procedures (including supervision and rest time) as indicated by teacher: preparate and supervise activities, maintain classroom stationery, store student work in order.
  • Instigate preventative measures to minimise accidents in the classroom and other areas.
  • Reinforce children’s positive attitudes and behaviour.
  • Refer parents to teacher with specific enquiries regarding education, welfare, social and emotional development, student interactions and concerns.
  • Participate in meetings and trainings according to the school calendar.
  • Support and implement the policies of LPE: Understand and work in accordance with the school policies and procedures, including LPE code of conducts and dress standards.
  • Other duties entrusted by the School Principal.

If while carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School Principal so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third-party services.

  • Excellent communication skills at all levels
  • Sound organisational and time management skills
  • Nurturing manner and ability to show compassion and care with young children
  • Classroom organisation abilities including moving of books, toys, administrative aids and furniture as required, and ability to create classroom and corridor displays including climbing of ladders to arrange ceiling-height displays and hang artwork
  • Ability to physically interact with up to 25 students during floor time, for lessons such as PE, Gross Motor exercises and Art.

Job Key Relationships

  • Line managed by School Principal, and Teacher in terms of classroom management.
  • Liaison with School Principal (Curriculum, Welfare and Administration), Admin staff, Subject Leader
  • Enrichment Teachers

Required Qualifications and Desired Attributes

  • A minimum Diploma in Early Childhood or similar
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in working with children (aged 2-11) in a school or day care environment international experience highly regarded
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Further qualifications in Early Childhood would be an advantage.

Working Conditions

Workplace

  • Most time in classroom and playground on campus site, as well as when needed or required, off site on school functions, excursions, meetings, events, and professional development.

Work Time

  • No fixed work schedule, to be called in to report to work half day or a whole day when a classroom teacher is absent. An hourly basic rate apply for hours duly completed.
