Assists the science teachers in demonstrations, instructing students and safety matters relating to the science laboratory during practical lessons
Supports the science teachers with procuring the necessary laboratory resources required for practical lessons
Maintains an efficient system for the use and allocation of materials and equipment, setting a priority system where necessary
Issues and retrieves apparatus/glassware for practical lessons
Develops maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment
Develops laboratory safety procedures and ensures compliance during practical lessons
Develops and implements measures for safe handling/storage/disposal of hazardous substances in accordance with relevant regulations
Performs general cleaning duties for science laboratories and oversee cleanliness, including but not limited to:
Inspecting and thoroughly cleaning the drainage system in the laboratory premises
Sweeping the laboratories and preparation rooms
Washing and cleaning apparatus as directed; clean copper, brass equipment and retort stands with metal polish
Washing glassware and bench cloths with detergent
Refills reagent bottles as required to ensure sufficient supply for practical lessons.
Keeps all exposed equipment after use, including replacing Bunsen burners and other apparatus to ensure the science laboratory is organized and orderly
Responsible for approved capital expenditure in the Science department for laboratory use in conjunction with the Science Head of Department
Keeps accurate records of purchases / incoming orders and maintains inventory of equipment
