Position Overview:
To ensure nominated vessels are maintained & operated in line with Statutory Instruments, Company Policy & Safety Management System, Industry Best Practice & Vessel Owners Requirements.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Act as the single point of accountability, monitoring all onboard activities and providing Technical & Operational Guidance and Support to the Master & crew of nominated vessels as required.
- Ensure Safety & Environmental Compliance with respect to Statutory Regulations, Company Policy & Safety Management System, Industry Best Practice, and owner’s requirements are given the highest priority by both the shore and vessels staff.
- Monitor and support all operations onboard nominated vessels closely, provide assurance that they are undertaken in full Compliance with Statutory Regulations, Company Policy & Safety Management System, Industry Best Practice, and owner’s requirements, whilst meeting efficiency & economic expectations.
- Ensure compliance with Wallem’s SMS, flag and class’s rules and regulations, state requirements, TMSA and other vetting agencies’ conformance.
- Support Operations superintendent and work together for common objective to operate vessels as required under the SMS and within the purview of Shipman Agreement.
- Responsible for all budgetary expenditure on nominated vessels, provide timely reports & analysis to Fleet Manager(s) and Owner(s) as required.
- Responsible for operating vessels within KPIs set out by Wallem’s SMS while maintaining priority on safety and pollution prevention. Technical Superintendent works with other departments of Wallem for meeting commercial expectations and maintaining vessels sea-worthy.
- Act as Client/Owners point of contact ensuring the highest level of customer Service & Satisfaction are maintained whilst also protecting the Wallem brand and our employees from risk.
- Provide Direction, Coaching, Guidance, Mentoring and Evaluation of senior sea staff to ensure that all operations are carried out safely & successfully whilst also enabling senior sea staff with their individual career progression & development.
- Monitor and maintain a thorough knowledge of current Technical Superintendents Work Instructions which maybe subject to review and revision from time to time, whilst completing all Tasks detailed in the Technical Superintendents Work Instructions for nominated vessels.
- Monitor and optimize vessels and seafarers’ performance. Collaborates with other stakeholders to ensure that vessels and seafarers have adequate resources to perform.
- Review, write and provide feedback on development area of seafarers, work-performance during specific contract, while setting clear goals and targets.
- Act as part of the Shore base Emergency Response team as required.
- Complete any additional tasks as reasonably requested by the Fleet Manager.
Requirements:
- Engineer Officer Qualification, with First Class Chief Engineers Motor license from an IMO whitelist country; OR
- Degree in Marine Engineering/Naval Architecture/Mechanical Engineering or other related.
- Minimum of 2 years’ sailing experience as Chief Engineer onboard; OR
- Minimum of 3 year's experience as Technical Superintendent within the Maritime Industry ashore.
- Able to handle mixed vessels types (e.g dry cargo, containers, gas carriers, RF containers)
