Primary Roles & Responsibilities
The patching cabling between network equipment and client’s network
The installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet
The installation, troubleshooting and de-installing IT equipment (Servers / Network /
Storage / etc)
o Install/swap out devices (e.g., phone, computers, cables, boards, edge routers, switches and etc.)
Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels
Act as interface between client’s associates and management
Provide hardware break-fix services for network infrastructure
Perform onsite call-through, data, voice, website and security testing
Perform back-up testing to ensure all systems are connected to the client’s network as directed
Support carrier testing of circuits
Assist with facilities efforts such as vendor coordination and vendor supervision
o Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral
o Water problems,
o Emergency cooling restoration,
o Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events
Support inventory management activities
o Receiving inventory
o Tagging of assets
o Tracking spares (crash kits)
o Ordering inventory
o Updating inventory records
o Prepare and return damaged equipment
Act as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management
Requirements:
Must be proficient in utilizing technical tools such as BERT testers, cable testers, and fiber testers.
Requires experience in working in communications closets
o Must be able to perform rack and stack activities
Must be able to safely lift heavy objects
o Must understand cable patching processes and procedures in copper and fiber
o Experience in either or both CommScope and Corning structured cables (copper and fiber)
o Must have a basic knowledge of data communications networking.
Must be able to assist in troubleshooting issues
Must understand network terminology
Requires good interpersonal communications skills
o Must be able to explain technical issues in a way the client will understand an
issue
o Must be able to interpret a client’s issue in a way that will allow technician to facilitate a resolution
Education/Experience Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Data Centre operations and environment
- Must have a basic knowledge of local and wide area networking.
- High school Diploma or equivalent required
