This is an exciting opportunity to join an early-stage venture in the field of microbial (yeast) fermentation. We are seeking a highly talented and enthusiastic research assistant to support strain engineering, bioprocessing, and downstream processing in a biotech venture working on producing high-value fats/lipids (starting with palm-oil derived ingredients) using precision fermentation. You will work closely with our Senior Strain Engineer and CTO to support and achieve R&D objectives, including designing and building genetic engineering tools, constructing engineered microbes, running small-scale fermentations, and characterizing lipid and fatty acid end products.
Job Description:
- Procure and maintain microbial strains, materials, equipment, and services for the laboratory, including the upkeep of reagents and consumables
- Execute day-to-day experimentation and maintain systematic records
- Support development and pipeline work on strain engineering, fermentation, bioprocess scale-up for microbial lipid and fatty acid-derived products
- Support company’s medium-to-long-term technical and product strategy
Ideal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or a related field
- Prior hands-on experience with yeast is preferred
- Experience with and ability to perform small-scale yeast fermentation and oil analysis is preferred
- Expertise in microbial physiology and metabolism
