- Standard Chartered are looking to hire someone to globally head the Compute Area of their Private Cloud Infrastructure team. In this role the individual will be accountable for Architecture, Design, Engineering and Operations of the platform. Compute Services comprises of Mainframes, AIX, OS400 as well as responsibility for ensuring the currency and stability of all non-virtualized x86 hardware.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
- Evolve and own the location, service and organisation strategies for the Mainframe, AIX, OS 400 and estate management (Compute Services)
- Evolve and own the technology strategy for the Compute services in the Bank
Business
- Ensure the highest levels of service availability and performance across the Compute support areas
- Constantly drive efficiency initiatives in the Compute services, especially on vendor spend and organisational design
- Manage the support costs within budget.
- Ensure vendor relationships are appropriately managed and deliver value.
Processes
- To be the owner of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) for Compute services
- To design and implement operational reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs) against these SLAs and OLAs
- Design and operate an effective support model across the compute infrastructure
People & Talent
- Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from the team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
- Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people, and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
- Employ, engage and retain high quality people.
- Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.
Risk Management
- Ensure that risks associated with the Compute services and related suppliers are identified, recorded and managed.
Governance
- Take personal responsibility for understanding the risk and compliance requirements of the role.
- Understand and comply with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws and regulations, including those governing anti-money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions; the Group’s policies and procedures; and the Group Code of Conduct.

Our Ideal Candidate
- 10+ years’ experience in managing IBM hardware technologies like P-Series and Mainframe
- Experience in managing large global x86 infrastructure deployments
- Successfully lead the engineering and operations of Mainframe, AIX and OS400 technologies
- Good understanding of financial models for Datacentre hardware
- Successfully handle challenging roles requiring collaboration and stakeholder management
