Director, Finance Department

The Finance Director oversees the financial management and reporting activities of the organisation and supports the Law Society Council in its long term financial goals and risk management.

  • Supervise and monitor the day-to-day financial operations, including cash flow, account payables/receivables, fixed deposits, available for sales investments, and other financial transactions
  • Provide thought leadership to ExCo/Council on finance related issues affecting the Law Society
  • Responsible for month-end closing and reporting activities
  • Review balance sheet reconciliation and schedules, and financial statements
  • Present summary financial results during monthly Finance Committee and Exco meetings
  • Support and follow up with Treasurer, Finance Committee and Audit Committee on their queries and action items
  • Lead annual budget exercise by working closely with C-suite, HR and HODs
  • Establish and implement financial policies, protocols and procedures in accordance with established corporate governance principles and advise departments on sound financial practices.
  • Review and strengthen current internal financial controls and processes by initiating and leading improvement projects
  • Prepare annual group consolidated balance sheet and cash flow statements
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors and relevant government authorities and ensure that the company's financial policies and practices are in compliance with statutory regulations and legislation
  • Lead and manage the Finance department


Requirements

  • Degree/Professional qualification in Accounting
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in auditing and accounting
  • Prior experience in non-profit sector will be advantageous
  • Strong understanding of, or prior experience in, corporate governance
  • Knowledge on SAGE 300 will be advantageous
  • A team player who is meticulous and hands on
  • Experience in project management will be advantageous
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills
  • Strong analytical skills with a customer focus
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
