Scope of works and key responsibilities:
1. Pre-Construction Stage:
- Cost Planning and Estimating:Prepare initial cost estimates based on design drawings and project specifications.
Provide detailed and accurate quantity take-offs from drawings (e.g., for materials, labor, and overheads).
Advise on cost-effective alternatives for materials and construction methods.
Develop cost plans that align with the client’s budget.
- Tendering and Procurement:Assist in the preparation of tender documents and the selection of contractors.
Review and analyze tenders submitted by contractors and subcontractors.
Prepare cost comparisons for tender evaluation.
Assist in selecting the most suitable contractor based on cost and capability.
- Value Engineering:Conduct value engineering workshops to identify areas for cost savings without compromising quality or performance.
Provide alternative solutions or materials that can reduce costs.
2. Construction Stage:
- Monitor the progress of construction works
Maintain detailed records of all project costs, including materials, labor, plant, and overheads.
Provide regular reports to the client and project team.
- Prepare interim payment certificates
Verify claims for progress payments
- Assess and manage variations (changes in scope of work, design alterations, unforeseen circumstances).
Quantify and price variations and ensure they are properly documented.
3. Post-Construction Stage:
- Prepare and agree on the final account with contractors once the project is completed.
- Provide a detailed post-project cost analysis comparing the final cost with the initial budget and estimates.
- Assist in resolving any contractual disputes between the client and contractor if any.
