1 Job description:

The candidate will have a background in laboratory management, scientific research and team leadership. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can ensure that all daily laboratory functions are conducted in compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.

The candidate will be fully responsible for managing laboratory staff, daily operation of the laboratory and maintaining laboratory equipment, to ensure a safe, efficient and orderly operation of the laboratory. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to develop and implement laboratory policies, manage procurement and relevant financial budgets, as well as collaborate with other departments and external partners. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth progress of experimental projects, promote the innovation and development of the laboratory in the field of scientific research.

This role demands excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the candidate is expected to possess proven experience in laboratory safety regulations and compliances in Singapore. This role will be based in Singapore and will be reporting to Head of R&D from China, hence proficiency in Mandarin is necessary. 2 Key responsibilities:

1. Laboratory Safety, Health and Environmental Management:
   • Develop policies to ensure compliance with laboratory safety, environmental regulations and health management.
   • Implement quality control measures and enforcing safety and protocols
   • Conduct audits, regular safety inspections and risk assessments, taking necessary corrective actions
   • Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials. Promote and evaluate laboratory staff’s safety awareness on relevant issues.
   • Organize safety training and emergency drills to enhance employee safety awareness and response capabilities.
2. Overseeing laboratory construction progress:
   • Coordinating and supervising laboratory construction and renovation to ensure timely and quality completion.
   • Communicating with suppliers and relevant departments to track progress and resolve issues that arise during renovation.
   • Responsible for applications of licenses pertaining to laboratory construction, renovation and operations compliance to Singapore’s authorities.
   • Report progress regularly to the Head of R&D and management.
3. Procurement of Lab equipment and Financial Budget:
   • Responsible for the procurement, acceptance, installations as well as relevant financial budgets of laboratory equipment.
   • Maintaining lab equipment such as troubleshooting technical issues.
   • Planning regular maintenance and managing the usage to ensure effective use of the equipment.
4. Overseeing Daily Laboratory Functions:
   • Managing and providing support to laboratory staff.
   • Recruit and train new laboratory staff, address complaints and resolve conflicts to maintain a harmony working environment.
5. Organization Skills: Organize scientific, occupational health and safety-related training and workshops to improve the professionalism of the research team.

3 Job requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related fields, with more than 2 years of relevant working experience in laboratory management. Experience in laboratory construction and renovations will be prioritized.
2. Proven records in laboratory management and rich experience in project management.
3. Other qualification certificate of safety management, strong knowledge of management policies, laboratory safety regulations and environmental regulations with relevant certifications in Singapore is highly recommended.
4. Self-motivated, possess excellent communication, organizational, coordination, problem-solving and conflict-resolving skills and team spirit. Able to manage various emergencies in laboratory.
5. Able to operate MS Offices such as Words, Excels and PowerPoints. Able to converse in English but proficiency in Mandarin is necessary as this role requires reporting to the Head of R&D from China.
6. Provide assistance in conducting scientific research activities, including literature review, biology- and chemistry-related experiments, when necessary.
