Key Responsibilities:
- Surgical Support:Assist the surgical team during procedures by providing the necessary instruments and supplies.
Ensure all surgical instruments and devices are sterile, functional, and ready for use.
Hand surgical instruments to the surgeon and assist in other ways, such as suctioning or applying dressing, as required.
- Instrument Management:Set up the operating room with appropriate instruments, sterile drapes, and supplies prior to surgery.
Maintain the cleanliness and sterilization of equipment and instruments according to hospital protocols.
Manage inventory and ensure the availability of necessary medical supplies.
Clean and prepare instruments post-surgery for re-sterilization.
- Sterility and Infection Control:Maintain a sterile field during surgeries, ensuring all instruments and supplies are free from contamination.
Follow strict protocols to reduce the risk of infections or cross-contamination.
Ensure the operating room is clean, safe, and compliant with health regulations.
- Equipment Handling and Maintenance:Handle medical equipment, including devices produced by Smith & Nephew, ensuring that it is functioning properly before and during the procedure.
Assist in the setup and operation of specialized surgical equipment (e.g., robotic systems, advanced surgical tools).
Troubleshoot and alert senior staff to any issues with equipment functionality.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:Maintain accurate records of surgical equipment used, ensuring that all instruments are accounted for before and after surgery.
Document any incidents or issues that arise during the procedure.
- Collaboration and Communication:Work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other medical professionals to ensure smooth surgical procedures.
Communicate effectively regarding surgical equipment, instruments, and any issues that may arise during surgery.
- Adherence to Regulations and Standards:Adhere to company guidelines, industry standards, and safety protocols.
Comply with local regulatory standards and healthcare requirements.
- Training and Development:Stay updated on new surgical products and techniques, especially those related to Smith & Nephew devices.
Participate in ongoing training to improve skills, knowledge of products, and compliance with new safety guidelines.
