Job Description
NUS Enterprise plays a pivotal role in advancing innovation and entrepreneurship. We are an incubator and venture builder with a comprehensive range of programs, providing mentorship, and support for startups and spinoffs. We are expanding and we need someone to be part of the team to nurture these start-ups and help them reach the next phase in their growth.
As part of the NUS Enterprise Portfolio Management Unit, you will
- Work closely with NUS Enterprise teams on the pipeline of early-stage startups/spinoffs, and identify opportunities for incubation and/or investment.
- Identify opportunities in emerging technologies and industries, supported by in-depth research and working knowledge.
- Manage the entire investment process, from sourcing, to conducting due diligence, deal structuring, terms negotiation, recommendations, legal documentation and funding completion.
- Build and manage external relationships with founders, investors, corporate partners, and internal relationships with NUS Enterprise and other departments, to foster collaboration and leverage collective knowledge/expertise, so as to enhance value of the portfolio of startups/spinoffs.
- Monitor progress of the portfolio and provide timely communication of such progress to Unit head and management.
- Seek exit or M&A opportunities of the portfolio.
- Be responsible for data collection, regular reports, legal documentation and administrative tasks related to your portfolio and the Unit.
- Senior level of appointment (Associate Director & above) would require you to assume leadership responsibilities, eg supervising junior portfolio/investment managers.
Qualifications
- University degree.
Experience:
- Proven track record in early-stage investments, including the management of at least one fund exceeding S$20 million. A strong network in the investment community would be an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to build a strong investment pipeline and identify potential in emerging industries and business models.
Skills:
- Critical and independent thinker, capable of seeing the big picture while maintaining attention to detailed execution.
- Proficient in assessing complex, high-risk proposals and making well-reasoned recommendations despite ambiguities and imperfect information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in financial analysis, deal structuring, and legal documentation.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary for engaging with external parties and articulating complex, high-risk proposals clearly and convincingly to management or internal stakeholders.
Work Style:
- Self-starter who enjoys hands-on work with founders.
- Resourceful, having a flexible mindset, capable of working within a large organization with established processes and diverse stakeholders.
