Head of Results Delivery Office (RDO), Upstream Transformation

Job Summary:

The Head of Results Delivery Office (RDO) is responsible for leading a comprehensive upstream transformation program aimed at maximising value creation within the Group’s upstream operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the ROD Head will define and execute a strategy that drives operational excellence, cost efficiency, and sustainable growth. This role requires close collaboration with senior leaders, cross-functional teams, and external partners to ensure alignment, while expertly navigating complex stakeholder dynamics and political landscapes within the organisation. The ROD Head will oversee initiatives from inception to completion, ensuring measurable outcomes and a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Value Creation in Upstream Operations

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive value creation strategy tailored to upstream operations, aligning with Group’s broader strategic goals and objectives.
  • Identify and prioritize key opportunities within upstream operations to improve productivity, reduce costs, and maximise long-term value creation.
  • Act as strategic advisor to the CEO and senior leadership, providing insights on market trends, competitive dynamics, and industry best practices in the upstream sector.

2. Project Management of Strategic Initiatives

  • Oversee all upstream transformation initiatives from inception through completion, ensuring rigorous project management practices.
  • Establish and manage a structured project governance system with clear milestones, timelines, and accountability to ensure timely execution and impact.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, allocating resources and ensuring seamless coordination and execution of each initiative.
  • Design and implement new processes and tools tailored to upstream operations to drive efficiency, scalability, and effectiveness in alignment with transformation goals.

3. Process Design and Tool Development

  • Lead the design and implementation of streamlined processes, digital tools, and operational frameworks specifically tailored to Group’s upstream operations.
  • Ensure the new processes and tool align with value creation goals and enhance efficiency, data accuracy and overall productivity.
  • Regularly assess and refine processes to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with Group’s evolving strategic objectives.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration and Complex Relationship Management

  • Drive effective collaboration with key stakeholders to achieve alignment on initiatives, goals, and the overall upstream transformation agenda.
  • Engage with and influence a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, departmental heads, and long-standing team members, navigating cultural and political sensitivities effectively.
  • Build trust and credibility with older, experienced stakeholders to foster a supportive environment for transformation initiatives.
  • Manage complex interpersonal dynamics and competing interests across the organization, ensuring cohesive action toward common goals.

5. Change Management and Cultural Transformation

  • Develop a change management strategy that supports the adoption of transformation initiatives across upstream operations.
  • Engage and inspire employees at all levels, fostering a result-oriented, agile, and customer-centric culture.
  • Lead communications to align employees, stakeholders, and partner with transformation objectives, maintaining transparency and addressing resistance as needed.

6. Transformation Timeline and Milestone Management

  • Manage the overall transformation timeline, ensuring each project aligns with key milestones and overreaching organizational timelines.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to assess progress and course-correct when necessary, ensuring adherence to project timelines and objectives.
  • Conduct regular status reviews and adjust plans as needed to ensure momentum and accountability.

7. Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

  • Set up a Results Delivery Office to monitor, track, and report on transformation milestones and deliverables across upstream operations.
  • Implement a continuous improvement framework to refine transformation efforts, identify additional value-creation opportunities, and ensure sustainable impact.
  • Conduct regular reviews to ensure accountability, make necessary adjustments, and communicate progress toward transformation goals.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Engineering or related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in transformation, strategy, project management, or consulting, ideally within an industrial or upstream operational environment.
  • Proven track record in leading large-scale transformation initiatives in upstream or complex operational environments with measurable results.
  • Expertise in stakeholder management, particularly in navigating complex organizational dynamics, managing older stakeholders, and working within politically nuanced environments.
  • Strong proficiency in project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Lean, Six Sigma) and experience in designing processes and tools.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams in challenging and politically sensitive settings.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage and align diverse stakeholders.

  • Digital Savvy: Strong understanding of digital tools and technology trends to support innovative solutions in upstream operations.
  • Change Leadership: Skilled in leading cultural and organizational change, with focus on engagement and alignment across a diverse workforce.
