The Role
The Perse School, Singapore, is seeking a resourceful and forward-thinking Part-Time Teacher of Music to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will inspire and nurture students' musical abilities in a diverse, and inclusive environment. The role involves teaching primary school-aged children, encouraging their creativity and self-expression through various musical experiences.
In addition to classroom teaching, the candidate will have the opportunity to offer private peripatetic music lessons to students on-site, outside of part-time teaching hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and a passion for music.
- Develop and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons for students aged 5-11, encouraging hands-on exploration of vocal and instrumental music.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies to support diverse learning needs, promoting self-expression and holistic development.
- Plan, prepare, and assess musical activities and performances, collaborating with colleagues on concerts and school events.
- Incorporate technology to enhance learning, assessment, and student engagement.
- Facilitate private peripatetic music lessons on-site, providing individualized musical instruction outside of scheduled part-time teaching hours.
- Foster strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and families, communicating effectively about progress and opportunities.
Essential Qualifications:
- A recognized degree in Music Education or equivalent, with a professional teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching primary-aged children (5-11 years), preferably in an international setting.
- Expertise in vocal and instrumental music teaching, with a passion for fostering a love of music in young learners.
- Strong experience in organising music performances and activities that involve student-led creativity and collaboration.
- Proficiency in using technology to support learning and musical engagement.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience in teaching students for whom English is an additional language (EAL).
- Knowledge of concept-based curriculums and international school frameworks.
- Skills in playing multiple instruments, particularly piano, and the ability to teach different musical genres and styles.
- Previous experience offering peripatetic music lessons.
