Position Summary

The Youth Worker will play a crucial role in implementing Resilient Minds programs within secondary schools, working closely with at-risk students to provide guidance, support, and a positive, trusting environment. This role involves direct engagement with students, facilitating group activities, providing one-on-one mentorship, and collaborating with school staff to support each student's emotional, social, and academic growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build Trusting RelationshipsEstablish a foundation of trust with students, creating a safe space for open communication and connection.
    Actively engage with students to foster mutual respect, empathy, and a sense of security.
  • Support Emotional and Mental Well-beingProvide mental health and emotional support resources, helping students navigate challenges and build resilience.
    Offer guidance on managing stress, emotional regulation, and coping strategies.
  • Empower Student Growth and Self-EfficacyEncourage students to set and achieve personal and academic goals, fostering independence and confidence.
    Guide students in developing decision-making and critical thinking skills for personal growth.
  • Skill-Building and Personal DevelopmentLead workshops or sessions on essential life skills such as communication, conflict resolution, and practical daily skills.
    Provide resources and tools to prepare students for life beyond secondary school.
  • Promote Community and BelongingFacilitate group activities, events, and programs that build social connections and a sense of belonging among students.
    Work alongside school staff to create a collaborative and inclusive environment for all students.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Prior experience working with at-risk youth, ideally in a secondary school setting.
  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with students.
  • Ability to create a supportive, inclusive, and safe environment that encourages student growth.
  • Knowledge of mental health practices, resilience-building strategies, and trauma-informed care.
  • Problem-solving and adaptability skills to meet the unique needs of each student and school environment.

Working Hours

  • Based on the school you're attached to, the needs and timing varies
  • Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday only
  • 2:00pm - 5:00pm (3 hours)
  • School in North (Woodlands area)
  • Contract is one year
  • $25-$35 hourly (based on experience)
