Job Summary:
The Food Labelling and Regulatory Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all food products meet regulatory labelling and compliance standards across relevant markets. This role focuses on interpreting and implementing food labelling regulations, creating and reviewing label content, and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and compliant product packaging. The specialist will support the company’s commitment to food safety and compliance by staying current with regulatory requirements and advising on necessary adjustments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and apply food labelling regulations, including ingredient listings, nutritional information, allergen declarations, claims, and warnings, for all relevant markets. Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, EU, and/or other applicable food regulatory agencies’ standards.
- Label Development: Collaborate with the R&D, Quality Assurance, and Marketing teams to create and update product labels, ensuring they are compliant with regulations and accurately reflect product ingredients, health claims, and nutritional content.
- Documentation and Verification:Review and approve label artwork and proofs, ensuring all required information is accurately presented. Verify that label changes comply with regulatory standards and conduct audits of product packaging as needed.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Serve as a regulatory advisor to product development, marketing, and sales teams, providing guidance on food labelling and advertising to avoid legal risks and support market launches.
- Market Research:Stay informed on changing food labelling regulations and standards in existing and emerging markets. Conduct gap analyses and propose updates to maintain compliance.
- Internal Education and Training: Train relevant company personnel on labelling requirements and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
Requirements
- Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in food science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food labeling, regulatory compliance, or quality assurance in the food industry.
- Strong understanding of food labeling regulations, such as FDA, USDA, EU, and Codex Alimentarius. Familiarity with organic, non-GMO, and allergen-free labeling requirements is advantageous.
- Proficient in interpreting and applying food labeling standards and regulations. The ability to work with software for label review and compliance management is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex regulatory requirements to non-experts.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and approving product labels, ensuring compliance with legal standards.
- Ability to identify and resolve labeling compliance issues, offering solutions that balance regulatory requirements with business needs.
