We are seeking a Junior Cargo Operator to join a Specialty Chemicals desk within a leading global trading house. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to start their career in commodities trading.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily desk operations, ensuring smooth coordination and execution of activities related to physical trading.
- Manage all operational aspects of physical trading activities, ensuring that operators efficiently and safely execute trades in line with contract terms, while optimizing costs.
- Identify and evaluate operational and business risks, taking proactive steps to minimize any impacts that could hinder the success or growth of the company, and escalating critical risks requiring further mitigation.
- Provide daily reports on operational processes to Team Leads and the Regional Head of Operations, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
- Support traders in optimizing strategies by leveraging knowledge of product movement, relationships with external partners, and the dynamics of delivery and supply, while promptly addressing and communicating any transportation challenges.
- Review product movement reconciliations and assist in facilitating loss control investigations as needed.
- Develop the ability to assess and manage risks (technical, contractual, and operational) for non-standard contracts, including new regions and long-term tenders.
Requirements:
- A degree in International Trade, Maritime Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong interest in commodity trading, logistics, and operations.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting a trading desk, preferably in Specialty Chemicals/Aromatics.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
