This advertisement is recruiting for the position of Science Laboratory Assistant & Ahoc Admin Help.

If successfully selected, you will be seconded to MOE primary school located in Jurong East.

Contract Year: from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025

Option to Extend: for a further period of 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026

Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:

week, spread over 5 days.

  1. During term time, Working hours: 7:00am to 4:15pm on Mondays to Fridays (excluding *45min lunch break).
  2. During school holidays,Working hours: 8:00am to 5:15pm on Mondays to Fridays (excluding 45min lunch break). Stationed at GO to assist in Admin Work *12:45pm – 1:30pm - Lunch

The service required are set out as follows :

The duties and responsibilities of the Science Laboratory Assistant:

  1. Prepare teaching resources for Science lessons, EE/LLP level programmes, E2K enrichment classes, i.e., packing of materials needed for experiments, setting up of, clearing away and cleaning of experimental set-ups and /or demonstration apparatus as instructed by the Level Reps and Science teachers;
  2. Prepare resources for the conduct of Science Practical Tests and maintain examination integrity;
  3. Ensure the maintenance (daily cleanliness and upkeep) and safety requirements of the following Special Rooms / Spaces under the Science Department; - Science Rooms - Maker Studio(s) - Learning spaces (e.g. EE Hub, Outdoor Experiential Learning spaces such as the Ecogarden, Rainwater Harvest system, Aquaponics/hydrophonics system, Butterfly Garden, Gardening areas, etc)
  4. Adhere to the following requirement stated in the Safety Handbook:

PART A -

  • Maintain a safe and tidy lab environment.
  • Display general laboratory safety guidelines clearly for all laboratories.
  • Display the evacuation route prominently in each laboratory.
  • Ensure that all apparatus and equipment are safe for use.
  • Ensure that chemicals are labelled properly in accordance to GHS in Chapter9. -
  • Ensure that spills are handled in accordance with guidelines.
  • Ensure that chemicals (see Section 11.3.5.) and biological materials (see Section 10.3.7.) are disposed of appropriately.
  • Store, use and handle chemical explosive precursors (EP) in accordance with the regulations stated in Section 11.2.

PART B -

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, apparatus, PPE, materials and specimens in good working condition.
  • Report all faulty machines and equipment immediately, and display an "Out of Order" sign prominently on the machines/equipment.
  • Check that safety devices in the laboratory, such as emergency eyewashers, showers and fire extinguishers, are in working condition.
  • Inspect gas and water systems and initiate necessary repair or maintenance work.
  • Maintain a record or file of the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) that accompany purchased chemicals (see also Section 11.3.1. on the classification of hazardous chemicals).
  • Keep a stock book and breakage record and indicate necessary replacement.
  • Prepare an inventory of stocks annually.
  • Maintain a usage record.
  • Check and replenish first aid supplies (see Annex B for the minimum contents of a First Aid Kit).
  • Guide or supervise laboratory attendants, or other personnel working in the lab, on laboratory safety.
  1. Support Science/Maker-related CCAs on CCA days from 7:30am to 9:00am;
  2. Oversee the use of the Maker Studio(s) by students during recess and after school;
  3. Carry out regular maintenance of Science resources/apparatus and the SPARKLES Kit;
  4. Carry out internal stock take of resources and inform Science HOD/LH SC on stocks to be replaced;
  5. Keep record of internal stock-take, breakage record, replacement record;
  6. Prepare for and support HOD/LH Science in the physical external stocktake with personnel from ST Engineering;
  7. Carry out follow-up actions after external stocktake, guided by HOD/LH SC;

Administrative duties and responsibilities of the Science Laboratory Assistant during school holidays:

  1. The School Laboratory Assistant is to perform the following administrative duties: - front desk duties (e.g. handling calls in general office, attending to students) - filing and organising documents - packing of items - assisting ESOs - administration tasks assigned by the Vice-Principal / Admin Manager.
  2. To be responsible for the proper maintenance of all the First Aid Boxes in the school

Administrative duties and responsibilities of the Science Laboratory Assistant during term time on an ad hoc basis:

  1. The lab Asst will be called upon to assist in the administrative duties listed in item 1 when needed.

NOTE:

  • The school reserves the right to vary the working hours according to organizational needs.
  • Time worked exceeding the normal working hours, as approved by the Principal, Vice-Principal, Administration Manager or Science Head of Department, would be claimed as time off on a subsequent date to be approved by them.

The personnel shall minimally have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Minimal 3 years’ experience working in school’s science room/ science lab, or similar working environment
  • At least 2 year’ experience of preparing SPARKLES kit for P3 teachers
  • Knowledgeable in preparing First Aid materials
  • Good communication skills, in dealing with teachers and children aged 6-12
  • Possess knowledge in Microsoft Word and excel
  • Experience in tracking, managing computing hardware using simple inventory system • Preferably 3 years or more experience in carrying out front office duties such as answering phone calls, attending to students
