- The Technical Superintendent bears responsibility for the secure, efficient, and environmentally conscious operation of the designated vessels.
- Ensure compliance of the vessel/s with all pertinent rules and regulations, placing special emphasis on the ISM code, flag state, port state, industry-specific requirements, and regulations, and provide appropriate support to ships.
- In the absence of the line manager, monitor and follow up on significant matters, updating the immediate reporting line manager.
- Provide assistance on technical operations matters as needed.
- Maintain technical statistics.
- Attend to additional duties as determined during the annual employee dialogue.
- Analyze and respond to Undesired Events.
- Support assigned vessels in preparation for Internal/External Audits and PSC inspections.
- Conduct visits to vessels to assess their condition and interact with onboard staff.
- Generate reports of inspections and findings.
- Organize Management Reviews and ensure the implementation of decided-upon actions.
- Monitor and follow up with technical managers on Technical-related matters for ships.
- Develop plans for ship takeovers and related arrangements.
- Document and follow up with weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports from technical managers overseeing the assigned ships.
- Check and monitor the budget and actual expenditures of technical managers, documenting any deviations.
- Verify non-budget costs and deviations.
- Assist with ship repairs and services as required, coordinating with technical managers.
- Monitor the performance of ships and machinery in terms of efficiency and Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
- Ensure the maintenance of vessel documentation and certificates for trade.
- Conduct screening of senior officers as proposed by technical managers and conduct owners’ briefings before joining.
- Manage regular reports from vessels assigned and organize them in a structured approach.
- Review and follow up on routine reports from vessels and managers.
- Conduct regular data analysis of costs, PMS, and other Key Performance Indicator (KPI) factors to assess the health of the ship from a ship management perspective.
- Undertake any other technical-related assignments as required by the Line Technical Manager.
Requirement
- Possess technical/maritime qualifications, preferably with seagoing experience on bulk carriers as Chief or Second Engineer/Master OR hold a degree in naval architecture or marine engineering with relevant office experience managing dry bulk vessels (including those with cranes).
- Standard computer literacy is required.
- Demonstrates a focus on environmental considerations.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster close relationships with shipboard staff, vessel technical managers, operation managers, as well as internal and external support functions.
- The candidate should possess a good understanding of Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and Safety Management System (SMS).
