Role:Storage Engineer

Key Responsibilities

1. Storage Management

  • Install, Configure, and Maintain: Implement Storage Area Networks (SAN) and enterprise backup solutions.
  • Health Checks & Troubleshooting: Perform regular health checks, monitoring, and troubleshooting for HP Nimble, Dell, NetApp, and Hitachi devices to ensure optimal availability and performance.
  • Integration & Interoperability: Integrate storage solutions (HP Nimble, Dell, NetApp, and Hitachi) into customer IT infrastructures for seamless functionality.
  • System Upgrades: Perform firmware updates and necessary system upgrades, particularly for Hitachi SAN environments.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records for storage configurations, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Disk Management: Manage disk partitioning and Logical Unit Number (LUN) assignments (create, modify, or delete LUNs).
  • Performance & Capacity Planning: Monitor and manage storage subsystems, conduct capacity planning, and optimize performance for HP Nimble, Dell, NetApp, and Hitachi storage arrays.
  • SAN Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot zones and switch-related issues, especially with Cisco/Brocade SAN switches.
  • Security Administration: Administer and manage security configurations within the storage subsystems.

2. Backup Solutions Management

  • Symantec Backup Administration: Administer and manage enterprise backup solutions.
  • Backup Jobs Scheduling: Schedule and configure backup jobs to ensure data protection across NetApp, Hitachi, and other systems.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimize backup server performance and troubleshoot backup-related issues promptly.
  • Capacity Planning: Plan for tape libraries and backup servers to support growing data needs.

3. Disaster Recovery (DR)

  • DR Planning & Execution: Develop and execute Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies to ensure quick and reliable recovery of critical systems.
  • DR Testing: Verify successful recovery of production or DR servers during DR exercises.

4. Storage Solution Implementation

  • Customer Collaboration: Work with customers to integrate HP Nimble, Dell, NetApp, and Hitachi Storage solutions into their infrastructure.
  • Testing & Validation: Prepare test plans and conduct functional checks to validate that storage systems meet customer requirements.

5. Additional Duties

  • Advanced Support: Provide second- and third-level support for advanced storage issues, particularly with HP Nimble, Dell, NetApp, and Hitachi solutions.
  • Data Center Operations: Assist with data center shutdown activities and recovery operations as needed.

Requirements

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business IT, or related fields.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing Enterprise Backup Solutions and Storage Area Networks (SAN).
  • Hands-on experience with:HP Nimble Storage: Administration, troubleshooting, and configuration.
    Dell Storage: Working with arrays, SAN systems, etc.
    NetApp Storage: Implementation, management, and troubleshooting.
    Hitachi Storage: Configuration, administration, and integration.
  • Additional experience with:IBM V3700 & V7000
    EMC Unity/VNX
    NETAPP Storage (FAS, AFF series)
    Hitachi VSP, HNAS, and HCP Systems
    EMC Isilon/NAS Products
    Cisco/Brocade SAN switches
    NETBACKUP or Veeam
    IBM Tape Libraries
  • Experience with storage replication, backup configurations, and conducting DR exercises.
  • Proficiency in power cycling storage devices and upgrading SAN switches.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to resolve SAN and storage issues efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative team player with strong customer service orientation.

Desirable

  • Prior experience working in the government sector or within a services business in a high-tech environment.
  • Familiarity with SAN protocols, including FC, iSCSI, and FCoE.
  • Extensive experience in managing and optimizing Hitachi and NetApp storage systems, including ONTAP and VSP management.
