Job Description

The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) Programme at Duke-NUS houses state-of-the-art technologies for profiling mitochondrial function and metabolic adaptations in model organisms and undertakes translational research in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. The program has a strong track record of publication in top-tier journals, successful commercialisation efforts leading to spin-offs, as well as nurturing early career researchers into independent academic or industry positions.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is a severe metabolic liver disease that can affect up to 6.5% of the adult population, with only one FDA-approved drug. Dr. Jin Zhou’s team is specialised in studying the novel molecular pathogenesis underlying MASH for the identification of new druggable targets. The lab uses a combination of biochemistry, genetics, animal modeling, and metabolomics approaches to understand cellular processes related to mitochondrial function and hepatic lipid metabolism.

We are looking for a highly self-motivated Research Fellow to join the team. The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities, including but not limited to the following:

  • Independently carry out the design and execution of experimental research required by the research component of the project.
  • Maintain optimal experiment progress in the laboratory or in the research work undertaken.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all findings and ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times.
  • Present research outcomes orally, and draft research abstracts and manuscripts for publication.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to undergraduate/medical students and research assistants.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, or related disciplines.
  • Hands-on experience with mice models, as well as wet-lab techniques in molecular and cell biology. Prior experience in polysome and/or ribosome profiling would be advantageous.
  • Proven track record of academic publications, including writing/drafting first-author papers.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, technical independence, and analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated individual, enthusiastic to take initiative, and able to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
