JOB DESCRIPTION
The Subject Teacher for English as an Additional Language (EAL - Secondary) is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality English language support to students who are non-native speakers. The teacher provides tailored instruction to help EAL students build proficiency in English, enabling them to fully engage in the academic and social aspects of school life. This role involves working collaboratively with homeroom teachers to provide inclusive and integrated language support aligned with curriculum goals and international standards.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Employing effective pedagogy that enables children to become successful and self-regulated learners who achieve personal excellence by:
- Building learning-focused relationships
- Empowering children to become independent learners
- Being clear about what is to be learnt
- Using assessment information to plan progression
- Using appropriate assessment tools for formative and summative assessment
- Providing high quality scaffolding and feedback to learners
- Encouraging children to reflect on their learning
- Engaging children in the co-construction of their learning progression
- Involving parents in their children’s learning through learner-led conferences and regular parent – teacher dialogue
- Employing and integrating ICT as a tool that improves children’s learning and assists learners to solve authentic problems related to “real-world” problems or issues
- Positive involvement in whole school events and activities as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- A relevant degree plus teaching qualification
- CELTA qualification (preferred) TESOL/DELTA (desirable)
- Evidence of continued relevant professional development
- Experience working with English as an Additional Language learners, and those with diverse needs
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in an international school environment where the school curriculum focused on PYP, MYP, IGCSE or IBDP
- Experience of delivering English for Academic Purposes
- IELTS experience (desirable)
- Empathy, Flexibility
- The ability to work collaboratively with team members and colleagues for learning, planning and teaching.
