Opportunity for a Jnr Associate to join the ENR Team in Singapore
Description
The role is a relatively unique mix of litigation and transactional work, focussed on advising trading companies, oil majors, mining companies and banks in relation to live trade problems, arbitration/court litigation and drafting or reviewing all kinds of sale and ancillary contracts (spot, long term, life of mine, offtake, tolling, related services, letters of credit, and letters of indemnity).
The team has a “Who’s Who” portfolio of top clients in this sector and has been rated in category one of Legal 500 and Chambers for more than 15 years. Most of the clients are long term repeat business clients who view Reed Smith as their partners.
In addition to sector and sale contract knowledge, candidates will also usually have good shipping knowledge.

Key Requirements
- You should be SG, US or common-law qualified (such as UK, Hong Kong, Australia, or New Zealand) with at least 1+ years PQE.
- Experience of physical commodities disputes
- Technical ability and knowledge of sale of goods
- Ability to handle transactions and disputes with limited supervision, plus ability to work as part of a wider team
- Ability to explain legal issues and concepts in simple terms
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of sector knowledge and commercial awareness
- Excellent verbal and written communication and drafting skills
- Self-confident, proactive, pragmatic approach to tasks and projects
- Highly enthusiastic and self-motivated
- Ability to work well in both a team and individually
- Ability to interact and build relationships with people at all levels
- Ability to handle client contact at all levels ( sophisticated in house legal teams to traders/ operations team)
- Desire to be proactively involved in business development and marketing with a view to handling networking and client contact from the outset
- Commitment to excellent client service and the highest professional conduct
