Project Officer (Climate Transformation Program Cluster 5)

A Project Officer position is currently available in the College of Business, Nanyang Business School (NBS).

The Climate Transformation Programme (CTP) aims to develop, inspire and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance, health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and it will transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.

As part of this programme, Cluster 5 - Climate and finance markets, will measure and price climate risk in financial markets, design innovative risk financing solutions to climate change risks, and quantify economic impact of climate policies.

The Project Officer will be based at NBS and will play a critical role in advancing the research agenda of the climate change risk management project under Cluster 5 - Climate and Finance Markets. The successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge research on various topics, including the effects of climate change on health and mortality, the development and application of climate stress testing methodologies for financial institutions, and the implications of climate change on portfolio management, life insurance, and retirement products. The Project Officer is expected to conduct high-quality, impactful research, present findings to both academic and industry audiences, and contribute to the publication of results in leading academic journals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting high-quality, independent research on the impact of climate change on financial markets, health, mortality, and related areas. This includes developing and applying quantitative models for climate risk measurement, modelling, and pricing.
  • Formulating and implementing climate stress testing methodologies for financial institutions, assessing the resilience of portfolios and financial products under various climate scenarios.
  • Deriving innovative risk financing solutions to address climate change risks, including the design of new insurance and retirement products that account for climate-related factors.
  • Quantifying the economic impact of climate policies, contributing to a deeper understanding of how regulatory changes affect financial markets and investment decisions.
  • Working with internal and external researchers, industry experts, and policymakers, to ensure the research is relevant and impactful.
  • Presenting research findings at academic conferences, industry seminars, and workshops.
  • Publishing research outcomes in top-tier academic journals and contributing to the broader discourse on climate change and finance.
  • Managing research projects effectively, including meeting deadlines, managing resources, and ensuring that research outputs meet the highest academic and professional standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Climate Science, or related fields from reputable institutions.
  • Interdisciplinary working experience in climate science and risk management, with a strong ability to integrate knowledge across domains.
  • Proven research experience with a solid track of publications in top-tier journals.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to develop and implement quantitative models for climate risk analysis and financial impact assessment.
  • Strong collaborative skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
