A structural formwork designer in the construction industry plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient design of temporary structures required for concrete placement. This role requires a strong foundation in structural engineering principles, proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla), and practical knowledge of construction methods and materials. Effective communication and problem-solving skills are also essential to succeed as a structural formwork designer.
- Design formwork systems (aluminium formwork and system formwork) to support concrete structures (slabs, beams, columns, walls, etc.) during construction.
- Ensure designs adhere to engineering principles, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Select appropriate materials (e.g., plywood, aluminium, steel) based on project specifications.
- Perform structural analysis to determine load capacities, deflection limits, and stability of formwork systems.
- Ensure designs can withstand live loads, dead loads, and environmental factors (wind, vibration, etc.).
- Work closely with project managers, site engineers, and construction teams to align formwork designs with construction schedules and site conditions.
- Coordinate with architects and structural engineers to integrate formwork designs with overall project plans.
- Ensure formwork designs meet safety standards and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with formwork installation and removal.
- Optimize the use of formwork materials to minimize costs and waste.
- Explore reusable or modular formwork systems to enhance sustainability and efficiency.
- Prepare detailed formwork drawings, specifications, and assembly instructions.
- Provide technical support to site teams during formwork assembly, installation, and dismantling.
- Research and implement new technologies and materials to improve formwork efficiency and durability.
Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- Knowledge of engineering principles related to load-bearing structures and construction methods.
- At least 5 Years of working experience in the related field.
- Required Skill(s): AutoCAD.
