Job Description:
The Central Kitchen Assistant supports the daily operations of the central kitchen by assisting with food preparation, cooking, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness and organization. This role involves helping with the processing of ingredients, assisting chefs in meal production, and ensuring adherence to food safety standards. The Central Kitchen Assistant plays a key role in ensuring the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently while delivering high-quality food products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in food preparation, including washing, chopping, and measuring ingredients for meal production.
- Help chefs and kitchen staff with cooking tasks, ensuring the timely and efficient production of food.
- Ensure that food items are stored properly and follow stock rotation procedures to minimize waste.
- Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, including cleaning workstations, equipment, and utensils.
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring all food is prepared and stored safely.
- Assist in inventory control by reporting stock levels and ensuring that supplies are adequately replenished.
- Assist with portioning food and packaging for storage or distribution as required.
- Support the central kitchen lead and other kitchen staff in daily operations and special projects.
- Ensure proper handling of kitchen equipment and tools, reporting any faults or malfunctions.
- Adhere to safety standards and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food production environment is preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy items as needed.
- Willingness to learn and assist in various kitchen duties.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time or permanent part-time position, with flexible working days/hours including weekends (4/5/6)
- Exposure to heat, noise, and kitchen equipment.
