Job Scope: Landscaping Technician
Overview
The Landscaping Technician is responsible for creating, maintaining, and enhancing outdoor spaces and landscapes. This role requires hands-on expertise in horticulture, hardscaping, and general landscaping practices to deliver aesthetically pleasing and functional outdoor environments for residential, commercial, and public properties.
Key Responsibilities
- Landscape Installation and MaintenancePlant trees, shrubs, flowers, and other greenery based on landscape designs.
Lay sod, seed lawns, and maintain turf areas.
Install irrigation systems and ensure proper functioning.
- Hardscaping and ConstructionBuild and maintain patios, walkways, retaining walls, and other hardscape features.
Operate tools and machinery such as mowers, trimmers, excavators, and backhoes.
Assist with drainage systems, grading, and erosion control.
- Horticultural CarePerform pruning, weeding, fertilizing, and pest management.
Monitor plant health and implement care plans as needed.
Apply knowledge of soil types, plant nutrition, and climate suitability.
- Equipment Operation and MaintenanceSafely operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment.
Perform routine checks and minor repairs to machinery.
Keep the worksite clean, organized, and safe.
- Client and Team InteractionCommunicate effectively with clients to understand their landscaping goals.
Collaborate with team members to execute projects efficiently.
Provide recommendations for landscape improvements and upgrades.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in landscaping or horticulture is a plus.
- Proven experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or related field.
- Knowledge of plants, irrigation systems, and landscape construction.
- Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Familiarity with landscaping tools and machinery.
