We are seeking candidates for the position of Research Officer for the Circular Bioeconomy team, part of the Biotransformation Group at the Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI). The Circular Bioeconomy team performs Research & Development in biotechnological approaches to waste valorisation, alternative protein and carbon-reduction. The mission is to provide biotechnological solutions for achieving Singapore?s ambitious goals of Zero Waste, Food Security and Net Zero emissions.
Job Description:
- Perform laboratory experiments for Circular Bioeconomy projects, such as microbial isolation, flask fermentation, bioreactor fermentation and analysis using assays, analysers, chromatography and quantitative PCR.
- Plan experimental work in close collaboration with supervisor. More experienced candidates will have greater independence in planning, executing and trouble-shooting their own work.
- Analyse, organise and summarise experimental results for reporting to supervisor. More experienced candidates will have greater freedom in interpreting, evaluating and reporting results to stakeholders.
- Maintain laboratory and equipment in good and productive order, such as purchasing consumables, organising and tidying lab, maintaining equipment and writing SOPs.
- Uphold high safety and integrity standards, complying with all HSEP (Health, Safety and Environmental Protection) rules and regulations, as well as SIFBI internal rules.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in food science or Life Sciences, such as Biotechnology.
- Previous work or internship experience with laboratory work is preferable.
- Experience and preference for hands-on experimental work in a laboratory.
- Experience with microbiological and aseptic techniques. Experience with fermentation and bioreactors is advantageous.
- Experience with analytical techniques such as biochemical assays, spectroscopy and chromatography. Experience with PCR techniques is advantageous.
- Experience with software tools such as MS Office, Teams, MatLab, MiniTab, and various proprietary scientific soft wares such as for biotechnological and analytical equipment.
- The ideal candidate is passionate about science and sustainability, self-motivated, organised, detail-oriented, and has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
