Research Assistant

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our interdisciplinary team addressing critical issues in mental health using AI technologies. This role involves contributing to a groundbreaking project aimed at developing AI-driven tools for mental health support, with a focus on detecting and treating mental health disorders and distress through digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and refinement of algorithms designed to detect social communication patterns and signs of mental distress.
  • Participate in the design and testing of AI models, including data collection, preprocessing, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate AI tools into social media and messaging apps to offer real-time mental health support.
  • Help conduct empirical research, including designing studies, recruiting participants, and managing experimental data.
  • Contribute to the development of empathetic conversational support systems facilitated by human-AI interactions.
  • Support the team in writing research proposals, progress reports, and academic papers.
  • Engage actively with project stakeholders to facilitate the adoption and implementation of research findings.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in mental health research and AI technologies.
  • Experience in research methods and statistical analysis, preferably with exposure to machine learning or natural language processing.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Prior experience in handling sensitive data and ethical considerations in mental health research is advantageous.
