Job Description

One postdoc position is available at the Surface and Interface Lab in Prof. CHEN WEI’s group, National University of Singapore. The successful candidate will work with Prof CHEN Wei on Interface Engineering for artificial neuromorphic electronics under a project on “Interface Controlled 2D Devices and Solid-State Batteries".

This project aims to advance the field of photon-modulated organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs), with a particular focus on photon-modulated electrochemical doping systems for flexible OECTs. This research is critical for advancing OECT-based circuits in bioelectronics, wearable electronics, and artificial neuromorphic electronics (e.g., optoelectronic synapses). A postdoctoral researcher is sought to contribute to this cutting-edge research, which lies at the intersection of organic semiconductors, materials science, and electrochemistry. The successful candidate will engage in the synthesis of channel-layer materials, the investigation of photoresponsive mechanisms and interfacial electrochemical processes, as well as the development of flexible organic optoelectronic synapses for applications in physiological signal monitoring and related fields.

Qualifications / Discipline:

- The candidates shall obtain PhD or submit PhD thesis in Chemistry or Materials in a research intensive and renowned University or Research Institute. The candidate shall publish a few papers on top journals.

Skills:
- Excellent English writing and communication skill, team management skill (help PI to lead a small research team with 1-2 master students).
- Experience in synthesizing organic semiconductor materials and characterizing OECTs, complemented by a strong background in structural characterization techniques such as TEM, SEM, AFM, XRD, UV-Vis, and GC-MS.
- Proficiency in surface science techniques, including XPS, UPS, and NAP XPS, is required.
- Practical experience with electrochemical analysis techniques is necessary, along with the ability to proficiently operate a range of electrical testing equipment, including semiconductor parameter analyzers, cyclic voltammetry devices, and probe stations.
- Proficiency in EPR spectroscopy, with a focus on analyzing organic radicals involved in both electrochemical and photochemical processes. Additionally, experience in studying ions and their behavior in these reactions is required.
- A strong background in computational chemistry, including hands-on experience with density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and the capability to independently design and perform related tasks.

Experience:
- Proficiency in the fabrication processes of organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) is essential, along with a comprehensive understanding of solid-state electrolytes, such as ionic liquid gels and hydrogels.
- Candidates should also have in-depth knowledge of organic radicals and their behavior in electrochemical environments, as well as extensive research experience in charge transfer mechanisms between organic molecules, with a focus on their roles in electrochemical and optoelectronic systems.
