Duke-NUS embodies a strategic partnership between Duke University and National University of Singapore (NUS). It works closely with the Singapore Health Services (SingHealth) cluster which is a network of national specialty disease centres, hospitals and polyclinics, to advance medicine and improve lives through cutting-edge research and education. Together, Duke-NUS and SingHealth form an Academic Medical Centre that comprises a number of academic collaborations.


The Signature Research Programme in Health Services and Systems Research (HSSR) at Duke-NUS is a center of academic excellence for research and education on the organisation, funding and delivery of health services. The programme’s focus is on public health and clinical service innovation in an increasingly complex and connected world.


The selected candidate will work with a health economics team providing qualitative research method support to various research activities. They will be required to conduct interviews, focus groups and relevant qualitative analysis, mainly with patient groups, clinicians and healthcare stakeholders. The activities will be relevant to the evaluation of healthcare interventions and care models, including but not limited to:

  • Interview clinicians and patient groups
  • Manage protocols development for research projects and IRB applications.
  • Develop interview guides, plan and conduct all relevant qualitative data collection activities.
  • Use appropriate software to collect, manage and analyse qualitative data.
  • Manage transcribing activities.
  • Conduct literature reviews to find information for new research ideas.
  • Assist in the preparation of evaluation reports for the health economics team.
  • Extract data from existing databases and published literature.
  • Manage projects from start to end with guidance (i.e. develop research objectives and study design, perform data extraction and data collation, conduct data modelling, perform analysis and engage and collaborate with various stakeholders).
  • Assist in drafting research abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Assist in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations to various stakeholders.
  • Support the secretariat and administrative functions of the health economics team.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health or other related fields
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in Singapore’s healthcare/ research setting
  • Experience in Singapore IRB applications
  • Adept at collecting and working with qualitative data.
  • Prior experience in various qualitative research methods and health services-related research will be advantageous.
  • Proficiency with NVivo would also be an advantage.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision and in a team, with dynamic reporting lines and multiple stakeholders.
  • Action-oriented, highly motivated, and target-focused.
