Would you like to be a part of a subject matter experts’ (SMEs’) public policy team that is shaping regulatory policy and driving the adoption of cloud computing among regulated industries in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the leading provider of cloud computing services, providing IT infrastructure offerings such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, AI capabilities and more. The AWS Public Policy team is at the forefront of helping customers in regulated industries (such as telecommunications (telecoms), financial, energy services and other companies) maximize the benefits of cloud computing and AI by removing regulatory and policy blockers to cloud and AI adoption and shaping policy frameworks. It also supports and facilitates expansion of cloud infrastructure and services in APJ.

AWS is looking for a talented, experienced, and innovative individual to develop and drive regional regulatory policy advocacy strategy including representation of AWS before regional policymakers and regulators in the telecoms and other heavily regulated industries. The role is focused around telecommunications and broader digital regulatory frameworks as well as AI policies and regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for advocating for favorable policies and regulations to promote AWS’ business interests in the telecoms and other regulated industries, and developing strategies to convince regulators of the security and innovation potential of the cloud and AI.

Key job responsibilities
This SG or AU based position reports to the AWS Head of Public Policy for Regulated Industries and Regulatory Strategy, APJ, and includes the following responsibilities:
• Comprehensive knowledge of AWS business in telecoms and other regulated industries in APJ and of AWS services and use cases, including AI;
• Fluency in all aspects of telecoms (and other regulated industries’) policy frameworks in APJ and their impact on cloud; AI policy and regulation and their trends – in APJ and globally;
• In coordination with in-country Public Policy teams, develop and execute APJ policy advocacy strategies that mitigate regulatory policy risks to the business and advance business opportunities;
• Support cloud infrastructure and services expansion in APJ, where necessary engaging respective policymakers and regulators;
• Develop external messaging, talking points, and narratives on AWS’ regulatory policy priorities; support the drafting and submission of AWS’ policy position papers and represent the views of AWS before governments, regulatory, and legislative bodies;
• Work with in-country Public Policy teams to proactively build and advance relationships with key telecoms policymakers, regulators and decision makers;
• Build up relationships with respective regional industry associations, inter-governmental agencies, academia, other industry thought leaders and third parties, and drive direct and indirect engagements to promote cloud friendly policies;
• Drive long term strategic thinking and thought leadership in the telecoms, digital and AI policy spaces, including organizing regional and global policy campaigns and events;
• Facilitate high-level meetings between AWS executives and key stakeholders, including senior government officials, regulators, industry associations and partners to promote and advocate the company’s policy priorities.

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology (especially AI), enjoy being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations. They should have public policy experience in a regulated industry, preferably from telecoms and must be able to point to successful advocacy outcomes they delivered in the past.


Basic qualifications

• 8+ years of experience representing a large company or association in the telecoms industry, a policymaker or regulator, with significant experience running public policy and/or regulatory advocacy efforts; • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Law, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, etc.);
