Senior Research Officer (Rodent Ecology Section)

You will embark on an enriching career journey at the Environmental Health Institute (EHI), and be a member of the Rodent Ecology Section, where your role encompasses the execution of both field and laboratory research. The areas of focus include (i) biosurveillance of the diversity, distribution, and ecology of rodents and their associated pathogens, and (ii) development of integrated mitigation strategies. You will work with stakeholders to translate scientific findings into policy and operations and contribute to the development of national environmental public health policies. As a member of the EHI family, you will have numerous opportunities for personal development, not only in science, but also in other areas such as project management, and stakeholder engagement.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ecology, Zoology, or a related life sciences field, preferably with training in public health.
  • Experience in designing and conducting research projects, including fieldwork
  • Any peer-reviewed scientific publications will be an advantage
  • Knowledge in the systematics, biology, ecology, and field surveillance of vectors (including rodents) and their associated pathogens
  • Experience in or a willingness to learn animal dissection techniques
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques and interest in working in high-containment laboratories
  • Basic knowledge of biostatistics and use of statistical software
  • Possessing a valid class 3 license and willingness to drive NEA's vehicle to field sites is preferred
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and contribute to the translation of research into public health policy and operations
  • Good organisational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple tasks
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn
