Reports To: Fleet Manager
Position Overview:
The Technical Assistant is directly accountable to the Fleet Manager, providing support in overseeing and managing the technical aspects of fleet operations. Responsibilities include assisting with vessel maintenance, ensuring compliance, handling technical documentation, and coordinating with various departments to facilitate smooth operations. Additionally, the role encompasses administrative duties such as arranging travel and managing related tasks for the Fleet Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Support:Assist in the preparation and review of maintenance records and technical reports.
Support the Fleet Manager in organizing and overseeing maintenance schedules and repair activities.
Track and resolve technical issues, ensuring timely documentation and follow-up. - Documentation and Compliance:Maintain and update technical records, including manuals, compliance certificates, and safety documentation.
Ensure fleet operations adhere to maritime regulations and industry standards.
Prepare and manage documents for audits, inspections, and regulatory processes. - Communication and Coordination:Serve as a point of contact between ship management, crew, and shore-based technical teams.
Coordinate with suppliers and contractors for parts procurement and service needs as required.
Attend technical meetings, providing organizational and logistical support. - Data Management:Analyze technical data to identify performance trends and suggest improvements.
Contribute to the creation and refinement of technical procedures and best practices. - Emergency Response:Provide assistance during technical emergencies or incidents, supporting troubleshooting and resolution efforts.
Qualifications:
- Education: Degree or diploma in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Prior experience in marine engineering, ship management, or related technical fields is advantageous.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of shipboard systems and technical operations.
Proficiency in handling technical documentation and data analysis.
Effective communication and coordination skills.
Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure. - Certifications: Relevant maritime certifications or qualifications are desirable.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to ships or shipyards.
- Hours: Full-time role, with the possibility of irregular hours based on operational demands.
