Job Description
The Department of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is inviting applications for up to 3 fully funded postdoctoral fellows for 1 year for the Academic Year 2025-26. Postdoctoral fellows are chosen from a competitive selection process. They will spend one year with the department working on research for a book manuscript or articles. In addition, they are expected to deliver a seminar about their research during their fellowship and teach one course for the department. The one-year fellowship period is from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, and the fellow is expected to reside in Singapore for the duration of the fellowship. The fellowship will be subject to all rules and regulations of the National University of Singapore.
We welcome applications from junior scholars who have research interests in any of the following areas:
- Chinese Literature
- Chinese Media Studies
- Chinese History
- Chinese Linguistics
- Translation and Interpreting Studies, with a focus on Chinese-English and/or English-Chinese translation/interpreting
- Overseas Chinese Studies
- Chinese Philosophy
- Chinese Religion
Qualifications
A doctoral degree is required by one month prior to the start of the fellowship. Candidates must provide confirmation of successful completion of their terminal doctoral degree, in the form of a diploma or a certificate of completion from the degree-granting institution’s Registrar. Applicants may not be more than three years beyond the receipt of their doctoral degree at the start of the fellowship. Applicants should possess professional proficiency in both spoken and written Chinese and English as they need to conduct research and teach courses in Mandarin.

- Cover letter that briefly states your background, and a summary of your research;
- CV with a complete list of publications (including theses/dissertations);
- Research proposal for the year of the fellowship;
- Dissertation/Thesis abstract and table of contents, as well as two writing samples (academic paper or dissertation chapter);
- Proposed course outline for course to be offered at NUS and copies of student evaluations of previous courses taught (if any);
- Three letters of reference and one additional letter from the PhD supervisor (total of four letters, to be sent directly to the above email address)
