The Foundations of Thermodynamics Group is a newly formed group in the School of Humanities at the Nanyang Technological University Singapore led by Nanyang Assistant Professor of Philosophy Eugene Y. S. Chua. It provides a space for research on all aspects of the conceptual foundations of thermodynamics, with particular focus on understanding the conceptual foundations of thermodynamics beyond the classical domain, e.g., in the quantum and relativistic domains, or how thermodynamics relates to other non-fundamental domains such as fluid dynamics and neuroscience.
The group is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Officer to oversee the management and administration of the group’s day-to-day activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth coordination of project activities, managing budgets and project finances, monitoring progress, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. This role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with researchers, stakeholders, and funding bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the group’s grant
- Developing and maintaining project documentation, including work plans, progress reports, and budgets.
- Monitoring project expenditures to ensure compliance with grant guidelines
- Processing claims and expenditures in accordance with university guidelines
- Liaising with funding bodies, researchers, and collaborators on group matters
- Tracking project milestones and deliverables, ensuring timely completion and reporting
- Organizing meetings, workshops, and events related to the project.
- Assisting in preparing funding reports, renewal applications, and project evaluations.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in philosophy or equivalent professional experience in project management.
- Experience managing grant-funded projects or research initiatives.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with an ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with financial reporting and budget management.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of philosophy and physics is a plus.
