Responsibilities
Shipping Operations
- Oversee the complete post-fixture process for all company-operated voyage, time, and period-chartered vessels, from pre-fixture arrangements to voyage completion.
- Manage vessel operations to ensure compliance with charter party agreements, optimize voyages, and minimize operational costs.
- Review and validate voyage P&L, handling payments to vessel owners and receivables from charterers.
- Issue detailed voyage instructions aligned with charter party terms.
- Coordinate appointments for agents, weather routing services, bunker procurement, and surveyors.
- Verify shipping documents, including pre-stowage plans, bills of lading (B/L), and letters of indemnity (LOI).
- Handle operational claims with support from legal/P&I teams and external legal advisors.
- Administer freight invoices, demurrage/despatch, laytime hire payments, and port disbursement reconciliations.
- Maintain open communication with stakeholders to promptly address and resolve operational issues.
- Monitor vessel performance, resolve disputes, and negotiate settlements in accordance with charter party terms.
- Collaborate with the trade operations team on laytime calculations, NOR clauses, and payment processes.
- Manage key freight operations activities, including bunker procurement, port cost analysis, and issuing voyage instructions.
- Analyze vessel performance data to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
- Input operational data into IMO VIP, Excel, and other required systems.
- Maintain accurate records of vessel positions.
- Draft charter parties and other relevant documentation as needed.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all operational matters related to assigned vessels.
- Ensure thorough review and compliance with all terms and conditions outlined in contracts.
Risk Management
- Provide guidance to the Front Office on contract reviews, revisions, and strategies to mitigate risk exposure.
- Identify and address potential risks associated with transactions and vessel operations.
- Collaborate across departments to develop practical and effective solutions.
- Ensure operational documentation is prepared and processed accurately in line with industry standards.
- Anticipate and mitigate risks related to weather, port congestion, and regulatory changes.
Compliance
- Uphold confidentiality, protect company assets, and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
- Follow internal control procedures and work with the Compliance team to enhance processes.
Other Responsibilities
- Handle additional freight and shipping-related tasks, such as system testing, as assigned by the supervisor.
Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime, Logistics, or a related discipline.
- 3-5 years of experience in dry bulk freight chartering and operations.
- Experience managing commodities such as coal, iron ore, bauxite, or copper concentrate is preferred.
- Proficiency in maritime terminology and independent voyage execution.
- Strong network within the dry bulk shipping industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the dry bulk shipping market and operational processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong multitasking and stress management abilities.
- Skilled in industry-specific tools, such as IMOS and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with international maritime regulations and risk management practices.
