Research Officer (Anti-Viral Therapeutics Lab), A*STAR IDL

A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR ID Labs) is seeking for a Research Officer to join us in our mission to be a leading centre of infectious diseases research. A*STAR ID Labs aims to develop a cohesive A*STAR response to drive and deliver translational infectious diseases research to better health and economic outcomes.

The laboratory headed by Dr. Marco Vignuzzi is leading cutting-edge virology and antiviral and vaccine therapies. We are seeking a motivated and fast learner to participate in projects involving the development of RNA therapeutics.

Job Description:

  • Produce and assay RNA using techniques such as in vitro transcription, qPCR, and next generation sequencing
  • Perform molecular biology assays such as molecular cloning and Western blots
  • Perform irological assays in cell culture for a wide variety of RNA pathogens, including chikungunya virus, Zika virus, dengue viruses, enteroviruses
  • Perform meticulous recordkeeping and draft reports and presentations to collaborators
  • Oversee daily laboratory activities and help manage the lab’s routine admin duties
  • Help new students and postdocs settle into the lab, transfer techniques to them, and participate in their research
  • Ensure safe technical practices and procedures

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Biological Sciences, Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Immunology, or related field
  • At least 6 months wet lab experience and relevant experience in molecular biology and in cell culture
  • Experience with RNA techniques (RNA extraction, qPCR, next generation sequencing, northern blotting) is preferred
  • General lab skills in molecular biology (cloning, PCR)
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently and multitask
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
  • A strong desire to constantly learn and acquire new skills
