RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will be responsible for conducting research on optimizing the processing of multi-modal input (especially a combination of event (neuromorphic) vision sensors and RGB camera sensors) for visual grounding tasks, and for also embedding such optimizations in early prototypes of AI-based systems for text+vision tutoring support (e.g., for geometry learning).
Successful candidate will be part of an active research team led by Prof Archan Misra from School of Computing and Information Systems, Singapore Management University.
The candidate will have the following key duties:
- Develop and implement new algorithms for efficient processing of hybrid RGB & event vision streams to extract semantically relevant sensory data for visual grounding tasks.
- Develop and implement optimizations to DNN inferencing pipelines, including the integration of Spiking Neural Network (SNN) models, to reduce latency of visual grounding AI models without adversely affecting accuracy.
- Conduct experimental studies (including generation of training data) to quantify the resulting system performance and generate appropriate analytical artifacts (e.g., graphs, reports) to document such performance
- Support the research team to produce high-quality research publications
- Minimum Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related disciplines from a reputable institution of higher learning
- 2+ years of relevant research experience in developing and implementing AI models for advanced visual perception tasks
- Coding experience with DNN and vision AI frameworks, such as pyTorch, TensorFlow and/or OpenCV, is essential.
- Project-level experience with vision DNNs and SNNs (Spiking Neural Networks), especially involving data generated by event-based vision (aka neuromorphic) sensors, is essential
- Ability to work cooperatively as part of a small, agile academic research team is essential
- High quality publications in academic venues related to AI for vision and low-power embedded systems is strongly desired
