We are seeking a graduate-entry Consultant to join our Forensic Accounting and Economics team in Singapore.  This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set to join the Forensic Accounting and Economics team, whose responsibilities extend beyond those of traditional junior accounting positions. The ideal person for this role will need to not only have a keen interest in forensic accounting, but also be flexible and a strategic thinker able to take on a variety of tasks.

The Consultant will assist in the quantification of damages, valuation of businesses, assessment of commercial insurance claims and other assignments.  Reporting ultimately to the practice leaders of our ‘Forensic Accounting – Insurance’ and ‘Economic Damages & Valuations’ teams in Singapore, the role will provide opportunities to work on a wide range of projects, including as part of multi-disciplinary teams (for example, alongside colleagues from J.S. Held’s Construction Advisory or Global Investigations practices). Please submit your resume in English.

 Job Responsibilities

• The team handles the full range of disputes requiring the quantification of economic losses including contractual and shareholder disputes, fatal accident and personal injury matters, white collar crime and civil fraud and investor-state disputes. Insurance claims include property damage, product recall, liability, theft/fidelity, and business interruption/lost profits. Businesses will consist of a wide range of industries and sizes.
• Use your knowledge of Excel to interpret and analyse the financial and operating information disclosed to our team in the course of assignments.
• Undertake research using public sources and paid information sources to which the firm subscribes, in order to identify data which will help the team to develop robust and defensible economic models.
• Draft requests for documentation to be used in our analysis (in the form of discovery requests and document request lists).
• Assist in the preparation of expert witness reports, written advisory reports and working summaries to be sent to clients. You will be the first set of eyes to make sure documents, transactions and information is accurate by flagging important details for senior team members to review.
• Organize supporting documentation and process data obtained for financial investigations.
• Assist with other assignments ranging from unusual insurance claim-related matters to investigation and advisory projects.

You have a good understanding of how marketing work based on your relevant field of study. You can establish and build relationships internally and with working level clients. You’re driven to learn and understand the job function of the client servicing team include performing fairly menial tasks which are part of client servicing scope. You are a believer that data and creativity will drive transformation. Ability to multi-task and follow through on projects with cross-reporting to key stakeholders.

Expectations of an Account Servicing Intern

• Responsible for administrative tasks including but not limiting to billing advices, preparing cost estimates, quotation, writing minutes, deck beautifications etc
• Support supervisor in project management include updating project briefs and timeline
• Coordination work during pre and post shoot

About the Role The role holder is responsible in developing effective control framework for reconciliation functions. The role holder will be responsible in reviewing existing processes and propose improvements. To lead the General Ledger Balance Sheet and complex bank account reconciliation process. To manage day to day reconciliations which would include monitoring of suspense accounts and reporting, recording and escalating any variances. To research variances and resolving reconciliation issues with Finance, Operations and Technology Divisions To understand and review existing end-to-end operational processes to identify inefficiencies and possible improvements & liaise with various internal and external parties to implement. To guide the team lead in proper documentation of key processes, workflows and controls in operational functions. To ensure transactions are uploaded into systems timely and completely. To participate in ad-hoc projects and tasks as and when assigned. Strategic Constantly review and lead improvement in reconciliation process and techniques. Keep abreast of developments in industry, regulatory, group and finance best practices. Governance Compliance with AIA control framework, accounting standards, insurance & investment regulations in Singapore, Hong Kong and IFRS, etc. Operational To ensure sound financial control and operation efficiency. Achievement against the following key performance indicators:- Transactions are properly accounted for with proper documentation by authorized personnel; Exceptional or material discrepancies/accuracy of accounting records are reported to the appropriate authority in accordance to operations manual; Timely and accurate reconciliation and system interfacing; Effectiveness and efficiency of follow-up in unreconciled item/discrepancies/reported exceptional cases; Process documentation and improvement; Analytical and problem solving. Job Requirement Degree or relevant qualification in finance-related field 5 to 8 years of operations accounting experience in an insurance setting Familiar with a range of insurance balance sheet accounts including but not limited to bank, premium suspense, payables, claims reserve. Proven track record of balance sheet management; including tracking of outstanding items, engaging stakeholders in improving operations flow and timeliness.
