Position Summary
The Infectious Diseases Translational Research Program (IDTRP) at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for the position of tenure track Assistant Professor. We seek an exceptional and motivated individual to develop and lead a research program in infectious diseases, with a focus on translational research that bridges fundamental discoveries and clinical applications.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise and interests in microbial interactions inside the gut, and their impact on health and disease. The successful applicant will join a vibrant and collaborative team dedicated to advancing the understanding, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases (https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/trp/infectious-diseases ).
Key Responsibilities
- Establish an independent, externally funded research program in infectious diseases with an emphasis on translational approaches.
- Conduct cutting-edge research that contributes to IDTRP’s goals, including vaccine development, antimicrobial resistance, pathogen-host interactions, and public health interventions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including clinicians, scientists, and other stakeholders to drive impactful research.
- Mentor and supervise undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in areas related to microbiology or immunology, anchored under the Department of Microbiology & Immunology.
- Publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research in leading journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
- Actively participate in IDTRP’s events, workshops, and outreach activities.
Qualifications
Essential:
- PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, or a related field.
- Proven track record of research excellence as evidenced by first author original high impact publications.
- Strong potential to secure competitive external funding.
- Expertise in translational research methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Desirable:
- Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the graduate level.
- Experience in mentoring and supervising research trainees.
- Research experience in tropical infectious diseases or diseases of global health significance.
- Familiarity with regulatory and ethical requirements for translational research.
