Duties

• Work with Research Fellow/s in the conducting of clinical research projects

• Processing and molecular analysis of patient blood and tissue samples

• Perform lab-based molecular work according to strict methodologies

• Optimizing and troubleshooting new experimental protocols

• Keep meticulous records of experimental work

• Coordinate laboratory operational activities through managing laboratory and sample inventories, establishing laboratory procedures and organization of laboratory consumables

• Work with Laboratory Safety Lead to ensure laboratory safety and maintain safety documentation and procedures

• Assist Research Manager in grant reports and organizing scientific meetings

Skills

• Meticulous and attention to detail

• Proactive and able to work independently in a corporate as well as laboratory setting

• Work collaboratively with other research groups

• Critical thinking and systematic problem-solving skills

• Experience in laboratory research and molecular biology techniques will be advantageous.

• Well-organized and able to clearly summarize and present information and data obtained.

Qualifications

Bachelors or Masters in Life Sciences/ Biological Science/ Biomedical Science or related fields. Laboratory experience in sample processing (blood/tissue) and molecular works (DNA/ RNA prep) is preferred. Experience in handling safety documents and coordinating research projects is valuable.

Job description:

Perform routine and complex analytical tests on human body fluids and tissues to provide accurate data for optimal diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease states. Capable of performing all of the tests in a single section or most of the tests in all clinical laboratory sections: bacteriology, immunohematology, chemistry, haematology, parasitology, serology and urinalysis.

• Perform routine laboratory test procedures as outlined in the established SOPs and according to MOH regulations, ISO and CAP accreditation. Adhere to quality assurance and quality control procedures in performing all testing.

• Correlate clinical information and/or previous lab results and reports discrepancies to HOD.

• Participate in developmental work on new tests

• Participate in established TQM activities, QC testing of lab reagents and maintenance of equipment. Follow protocol for running and documenting control values.

• Maintain open communication with HOD and other team members to ensure optimal operation and follow-up. Communicate pertinent information to other team members in a clinically relevant time frame to enhance the lab’s contribution to patient care

• Perform other assigned duties as instructed or required

Job requirements:

• At least Diploma in Biomedical Science or relevant course of study

• Minimum 1-2 years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or commercial lab environment

• Able to commit to a 5.5 days (Mon-Sat) & flexible to different staggered shift schedules

• Various departments for placement: Microbiology, Special Chemistry, ImmunoBiochemistry, Hematology, Satellite Laboratory

• Computer literate, basic knowledge & skills in ULTRA will be an added advantage

• Knowledge in operating an HPLC instrument and ICMS will be an added advantage.

There are 9 different shifts, 5.5-day work week for our Paragon Medical Laboratory:

2. Mondays to Fridays: 0830-1730H; Saturday: 0830H-1300H

3. Mondays to Fridays: 0900-1800H; Saturday: 0900H-1330H

4. Mondays to Fridays: 0930-1830H; Saturday: 0930H-1400H

5. Mondays to Fridays: 1000-1900H; Saturday: 1000-1430H

6. Mondays to Fridays: 1030-1930H; Saturday: 1030-1500H

7. Mondays to Fridays: 1100-2000H; Saturday: 1100H-1530H

8. Mondays to Fridays: 1130-2030H; Saturday: 1130-1600H

9. Mondays to Fridays: 0800-1700H; Saturday: 0800-12300H
