The Architect defines and communicates a shared technical vision for solutions in an Agile Release Train (ART). They collaborate with teams to elaborate system architecture, validate technology assumptions, assess implementation options, and establish the Continuous Delivery Pipeline. This ensures the developed system aligns with its intended purpose.

Job responsibilities:

Agile Release Train Leadership:

Partner Product management and Release train engineer to lead the design and implementation of Agile Release Trains, providing guidance on the structure, processes, and ceremonies.

Collaborate with key stakeholders to define strategic architectural runway, align the ART strategy and roadmap with organizational objectives.

Architectural Design:

Work with the respective development teams within ART to design and maintain the overall architecture of the Agile Release Train, considering scalability, flexibility, and integration points.

Provide technical leadership and expertise to ensure the architecture supports the Agile principles and practices.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

Foster collaboration between development teams, product owners, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of business value.

Partner closely with cross teams within ART and beyond to build a simplified and yet connected system landscape which supports Rio Tinto Commercial growth ambition.

Continuous Improvement:

Implement and champion continuous improvement initiatives within the Agile Release Train, identifying areas for optimization and efficiency.

Drive the adoption of Agile best practices and ensure teams are constantly learning and evolving.

Risk Management:

Identify and mitigate risks related to the Agile Release Train, providing proactive solutions to potential challenges.

Work closely with teams to address impediments and facilitate timely issue resolution.

Technical Leadership:

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and best practices.

Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and Agile methodologies to inform and enhance the organization's practices.

Provide guidance to development teams on how we can design systems integration and cross share of data within and outside of China borders.

Knowledge and experience:

• Proven experience as a Solution Architect embracing Agile methodologies.
• In-depth knowledge of Agile frameworks (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban)and practical experience implementing them in large-scale organizations.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, development methodologies, and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of SAP Deal to Settlement process.
• Experienced Salesforce centric architectural design experience with Salesforce Lightnings and other Salesforce products.
• Experienced with one or more integration tools, able to design integration scenarios or integration pattern
• Familiar with Document Management Solutions, Data Architecture Solution, AI/ML.
• Having human centred design or design thinking experience will be a plus.
• Experienced working with teams of Architects especially Salesforce Solution/Technical Architects, Data and Integration Architect as well as Enterprise Architect.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Architect, to work in the Move and Sell (Commercial) portfolio, across Commercial Digital, Sales and Marketing, Shipping and Logistics. This role will focus primarily on program-level architecture, helping to guide and deliver solutions aligned to our commercial organization business needs, and our enterprise architecture strategy. As a core member of the agile delivery team, this role will ensure the “right technology” is selected for the right business outcomes; to reduce complexity, increase organizational agility and drive competitive advantage in this space.

Reporting to the Manager Strategy & Architecture (APAC W), and working in challenging and exciting environment within our global Enterprise Architecture Team, you will:

• Work as an embedded member of the Commercial Digital Team Agile Release Train team
• Provide actionable advice regarding alignment between products / solutions and applicable business / IS&T strategies
• Work collaboratively with the Commercial team and related stakeholders, to develop and maintain a strategic vision / roadmap for the domain
• Define and enforce architecture principles and standards through active participation in Architecture Review and Agile Development processes
• Provide Enterprise Architecture review of design documentation and target state architectures
• Assist in the development and assessment of solution architectures that contribute to the strategic intent of the Commercial Digital team
• Publish points of view, position papers and guidance notes that clarify architecture gaps, risks and opportunities
• Act as a trusted advisor, strengthening relationships with business partners, enterprise architecture and delivery teams, to maintain business value / technology alignment
• Identify opportunities within our technology landscape, to improve cost-efficiency, value delivery, risk management and user experience

What you’ll bring

• Architecture experience in at least one of the following IT disciplines (Applications, Integration, Network, Data, Infrastructure, Cloud and operations) in a large corporate or equivalent consulting environment
• Proven experience in a variety of Information Technology (IT) roles focused on delivery, operational excellence, engineering and/or architecture.
• Demonstrated experience influencing key decision makers in a large, cross-functional team setting.
• High emotional IQ, and ability to quickly shift to/from technical and business discussions at all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to balance long-term ("big-picture") and short-term implications of architecture decisions
• Previous experience with delivering strategy, roadmaps, reference architecture and standards; experience in development of business cases.
• Direct experience in solution architecture roles and experience with TOGAF or equivalent methodology and tools is highly preferable.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

• Demonstrated experience with Commercial, Marketing and/or Sales related technology (Applications, Data and/or Infrastructure)
• Familiarity with S&OP, Marine/Logistics and/or end-to-end supply chain optimization.
• Familiarity with trading and/or financial services line of business.
• “End to End” architecture experience within a Mining or Resources organisation
