The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in managing, contributing to and communicating findings of research projects. He/she should be a fast worker and have excellent research, writing/editing and trend analysis skills. Duties & Responsibilities:

• Guide junior members of the team to do continuous background research on Singapore’s evolving unmet needs landscape, and oversee donor and stakeholder value proposition decks, which, in turn, will inform CFS’s philanthropic programmes and practices
• Distil, edit and communicate actionable insights from in-house and external research reports/surveys in a clear, concise and compelling manner to non-research audiences
• Lead the evaluation and impact measurement practice within CAP
• Scope actionable external research and insights projects that align with CFS’s philanthropy philosophy and grant-making goals
• Work with external researchers, where necessary, to design and execute qualitative and quantitative studies that address key questions on unmet needs and challenges
• Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure that research insights are integrated into decision-making at all levels of donor engagement and grant-making
• Stay up to date with latest sector trends, and share knowledge with the team on an ongoing basis

Qualifications and Skills Requirements:

• Strong writing and editing skills – must be able to write and speak clearly, and deliver research content clearly to non-research audiences.
• Post-graduate qualifications in a research, social sciences or sustainability-related field or evidence of equivalent experience.
• Domain knowledge/expertise on economic, social, health and care needs in Singapore, or sustainability issues and/or the philanthropy sector.
• Ability to review and critically appraise data and empirical literature and construct theories of change
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a range of audiences, stakeholders, funders and partners.
• Ability to work under own initiative in a fast-paced environment with a proactive approach to problem solving.
• Skills and experience in evaluating the outcomes of community-based philanthropic or Government intervention programmes.
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills
• Skills in other visualisation, research and analysis software will be an advantage
• Experience in writing/editing a range of content – for example donor impact reports, thematic reviews, articles, blogs etc.

The candidate will be a key member of the CAP team with a responsibility to oversee the efficient and effective running of CAP programmes, and provide direction and guidance to project teams.

The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in driving collective giving/philanthropic initiatives, with in-depth domain knowledge in one or more of the following areas – environment/sustainability, issues affecting lower-income families, education, skills training, employment-support, health and care. He/she should also have a data-driven understanding of effective and innovative giving strategies in any of the areas identified above.

Key Responsibilities:

• Proactively exercise creativity, foresight, and judgment in planning and delivering CAP collective giving programmes and bespoke philanthropy advisory services in a variety of philanthropic domains.This includes developing and implementing strategies, action plans and programmes to promote effective philanthropy in Singapore.
• Provide independent leadership on complex assignments and be able to guide 1-2 team members; including clearing copy and slide decks prepared by team members
• Uphold business and operational excellence at the Centre; manage budgets and monitor progress on KPIs.

• Oversee the end-to-end grantmaking process for new collective giving programmes and community impact funds

About the Centre for Applied Philanthropy (CAP)

CAP is a relatively new thought leadership and innovation hub within CFS. It seeks to support effective philanthropy through:

1. Research, Strategy and Insights Providing insights through data and research: we collect and analyse data on philanthropy and unmet needs in Singapore to understand trends, emerging issues and measure impact.
2. Collective Giving and Innovations in Philanthropy Collaborating with others to achieve meaningful social impact: we partner with other organisations in the philanthropic ecosystem to pool resources and expertise to achieve greater impact through collective funding programmes and community impact funds.
3. Philanthropy Advisory: Offering tailored philanthropy advisory services to meet evolving donor needs and aspirations: we co-create impactful initiatives for select donors that tackle the root causes of complex socio-economic problems.

Role Overview:

The Business Manager will be a critical member of the CAP Team, reporting directly to the Senior Director. He/she will work across all CAP projects, as an overall project manager, to co-design, organize, support, guide and review various inside-of-CAP processes (business processes improvement, knowledge management, project management), as well as liaise with other CFS teams, such as Business Operations/Finance and Tech, to ensure effective and efficient administrative, project, reporting and grantmaking processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations Management

• Oversee and manage the daily operations of CAP, including scheduling and coordination and minute-taking, where necessary.
• Develop, implement and review policies and business processes based on industry best practices, to ensure effective and efficient functioning of CAP. This includes enabling grant-making for CAP projects and IT systems usage (eg NetSuite).
• Be the CAP representative for any systems-related migrations/upgrade/change

Project Management

• Maintain working knowledge of and support all CAP programmes and priority funding areas (Collectives, Collective Impact Funds, Bespoke Philanthropic Projects in areas of social and sustainability needs) by assisting in strategies, workplans and progress tracking.

Grant Management

• Work with various teams to monitor CAP grants for legal, financial, and programme compliance.
• Monitor and document the grant-making workflow processes, forms, templates, reports and data to assure full compliance with internal controls and legal requirements.
• Ensure all CAP team members are aware and knowledgeable of grants management processes and technology to the degree their functions require.
• Problem-solve complex grant scenarios; consult/liaise with finance and/or legal counsel.

Research, Strategy and Analysis

• As with all other members of CAP, the Business Manager will also remain abreast of current research, activities, best practices, innovation and trends in the philanthropic sector and Singapore’s Non-Profit sector, to provide informed inputs on the CAP’s activities and recommendations and support when needed.

Financial and Programme Evaluation

• Support senior team members to develop and manage the budget for CAP, ensuring financial sustainability.
• Design and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders, showcasing achievements and impact.

Communications, Collaboration and Networking

• Build and maintain effective relationships, via formal and informal networking opportunities, with internal teams and external organisations such as academic institutions, key players, donors, partners, and the wider community for the purpose of collaborative opportunities and creating impact through philanthropy.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Project/Programme management experience (with grantmaking being a distinct advantage).
• Knowledge and/or high comfort level to understand IT/CRM systems (such as NetSuite and Submittable), basic data analysis skills and familiarity with business process management.
• Strategic thinker with a process and system mindset.
• Domain knowledge in non-profit landscape such as social issues and/or sustainability/environment will be a definite advantage.
• A high level of organisational capability, attention to detail and a proactive, problem-solving, can-do attitude.
• Strong written, numeric and oral skills, interpersonal/listening skills, with the ability to engage a range of audiences, stakeholders, funders and partners and instinctual information sharers, and network builders.
• Ability to work under own initiative.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications (especially PowerPoint and Excel).
• Basic degree is required; Master’s qualifications in non-profit management, business management or social sciences will be an added advantage.
