Role Purpose

- To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English

Accountabilities
Teaching
- Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning needs and modes of learning.
- Ensure teaching meets British Council Global Teaching Standards, as well as organisational and learner expectations.
- Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout their learning, and actively promote learner autonomy and progress.
- Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
Academic Support
- Lead teachers will use their academic expertise to support the teaching team:Provide academic support and supervision to lesser experienced teachers by conducting observations, providing feedback and mentoring.
Lead on specific academic areas such as planning groups, projects, teacher development and training.
Teaching Centre Activities
- Support teaching centre’s activities and British Council plans.
- Attend staff meetings and otherwise contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
- Support local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service through dissemination of information and communications with students.
- Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards and uphold professional responsibilities and values. Ensure British Council’s values and behaviours are reflected in their work.
Customers and Stakeholders
- Maintain good relationships with customers/colleagues and ensure customers are aware of British Council’s cultural relations role and help develop opportunity for students to gain some understanding of the UK and its values and to participate in inter-cultural interactions either in class or as out of class activity.

- Ensure guidelines and policies are applied and upheld in relation to Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability, Health and Safety.
Qualifications
Essentials
- Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. DELTA/ Trinity Diploma (TEFLq) or equivalent
- Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Certificate TESOL (TEFLi) or equivalent
- University Degree or equivalent
Desirables
- Specialism where appropriate e.g. YL qualification: TYLEC (or equivalent)
- PGCE/B.Ed in Primary or relevant subject
Work Experience
Essentials
- 4 years post-certificate experience (TEFLi)(and/or equivalent to 2,400 hours)
- Experience in teaching relevant age groups to be specified by the centre:Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
Secondary aged 11 to 17 (800+ hours)
University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (400+hours)
Adult General, Business English and ESP 18+ (800+ hours)
- Knowledge and experience of teaching small group and 1-to-1 classes
Desirables
- Knowledge and experience teaching English IGCSE A levels and IB.
- Knowledge and experience teaching IELTS / TOEFL
Language Requirement
- High proficiency in English: CEFR level of C2/ IELTS Band 8+ in each of 4 sections of the academic module
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: SGD 6,000 to SGD 6,790 per month depending on qualification and experience.
- Annual Leaves: Enjoy 35 working days per annum plus public holidays
